car charger turns my phone off...

Why is this happening? When I plug my phone into the phone charger, if my phone is on, it turns it off. I've tried turning my phone on BEFORE plugging it in, and also afterwards, and both times, it turns the phone off automatically, at least once its charged. Is it supposed to do that? With my last phone, you could use the phone while it was plugged in to save on battery.

Are you using an LG OEM Car Charger? If so, sounds like you have a defective phone and you should go back to Verizon and get it replaced. I have no problems using the phone with a LG OEM Car Charger.

I haven't used the phone charger b/c I use the desktop one all the time, but the Verizon guy advised us not to use the car charger frequently with this phone. Go figure.

That's interesting. I wonder WHY? I went to verizon and got a new charger, and now the charger works just fine and doesn't turn the phone off. So it looks as though I had just gotten a bad car charger. I'd love to know why the verizon guy said not to use it frequently with this phone. Hmmm...

I see this problem all the time. The charger most likely had a bent prong where it plugs into the phone, causing a short, making the phone shut off.

You shouldn't use the car charger very often because it is a rapid charger, vs your home charger witch is a trickle charger.

Tech master - Would you say it is best to only use a car charger after the battery power is down to a very low level? Also, since the home charger is a trickle, I heard that it does not matter how often (or what the power level is) you use it to charge the phone???

Yes. I only use the car charger when the phone is going to completely die. It is a last resort for me.

I think that you can use the home charger any time. I will say that even the wall charger should be used no more than eight hours per day. I put my phone on the charger when I go to bed, and take it off when I get up.

This may sound like alot of trouble but it won't be the first time you have to fork out thirty to fifty dollars for a new battery.
