I Did It!

by rabernet    Feb 6, 2004, 6:55 AM

OK, after much deliberation and reading both here and at HowardForums, I made the leap and did the switch to the 4500. I haven't had enough time to play with it yet to provide a review, but so far, I'm pleased with it.

Spectar and 2fingers, is the front of yours getting scratched at all? I'm very paranoid about the front being scratched. I'm always wiping it with a tissue or even my shirt to keep it nice and shiney! Laughing

Spectar, you are right, you can't change the front LCD color for standby mode, not an option. But you can change it when it rings, etc. But you know what? The white, I think, makes it look pretty classy, so I'm not displeased with the white in standby.

I do have to get my timing right with the voice command features. I always start saying the contact or digit dial number before the tone goes. Guess I'm just an impatient little bugger! Wink

I like how you can switch to speaker phone and back to normal during a call, and drive mode seems pretty cool, but no one calls me at 5:30 in the morning during my morning commute, so I couldn't test it out then.

I do think I like the "look" of the 4400B better, but this is just so much more feature rich.

I hate the numbers games that Verizon plays though. The phone is supposed to be $89 after the $30 rebate. I have $100 credit with the NE2. I went around and around with the lady. Fine, I understand that I need to pay the $30 rebate, since I'm just going to get it back, but SHE tells me that the $30 becomes part of the $100 credit. So, what she does, is she subtracts $70 from the $119 price (before rebate price) and tells me that the rebate makes up the difference in the $100, so I owe essentially $40 plus taxes. She said this is the "new way" that Verizon wants them to ring things up. I still think I should pay $30 for the rebate price (plus applicable taxes) and the balance should be covered by the $100 credit. Wonder if I should ask Clark Howard about that? Wink

Ah well, after that exchange and me finally saying "whatever, give me the phone, and ring it up your way", I get home and I have a $50 check from AT&T wanting to woo me back to them for residential long distance. I had switched everything to Bellsouth (local, ld, and internet) in a bundle, but it's not really saving me that much anyway. And most of my long distance calling is on my cell anyway, so I might bite and switch back and cash that baby!

OK, I'm rambling as usual. Thanks again for all your information that helped me decide to get this phone!
