Total Novice Question

I want to download ringtones, maybe some wallpapers. What do I need to do this. I do not have web browsing on my calling plan because it is through my work and the calling plan is somewhat restrictive.

Can I download and install these things by using a USB cable with the phone, downloading from a website and then installing to the phone? If so how do I accomplish that, and what type of cable do I need. Thanks for getting a novice started.

P.S. Verizon tried to tell me that I couldn't do this anywhere except Get It Now. Humphhh!!

You need to pick up the sync cable which will provide the connectivity between your computer and telephone.

Then you need to use an application called BitPIM to copy ringtones, wallpapers, contacts, etc. between your computer and phone. You can find this app here:

dstymiest, follow up question...I tried the data kit from verizon and it would sync my outlook contacts but not the outlook calendar...I am waiting the release of the more expensive DataPilot for the vx4500 which is coming any day which will sync the calendar...question is will this BitPim sync the outlook calendar with the 4500?...I would then only need the cable..which is much cheaper...?
thanks

BitPim doesn't sync with Outlook. It really only transfers files back and forth from the phone. I only use it for ringers and wallpapers. I have not found a way of transfering animated wallpapers either....the software only transfers bmp files for wallpaper.

Thanks for the response. Does it take any special software to download to the phone? And is installing ringers, wallpaper, etc. pretty straight forward or this anything that I need to know?

One more quick one...can I get the sync cable from Radioshack or am I going to be stuck paying Verizon's high prices?

Thanks.
