I think you missed the most important words in that email: "it's possible this...use may be available in some 3G areas..."

In other words, it might work, but it might not, nobody is going to make any promises about whether it will or will not work in any given area, and even if it does, nobody is going to make any guarantees of the quality of the result.

Once again (maybe read this more slowly, it might sink in) unless there are two 3G radios (or the 4G radio can "fall back" to 3G, thus giving you two 3G radios at the same time), or they are doing something VOIP, or VOIP-ish, then it simply isn't technically possible. I wouldn't put it past HTC to put a dedicated VOIP in there, and to have some arrangement with Verizon to allow it to map transparently...
