I Have Decided....

This is going to be the phone to beat for the upcoming 4G releases for VZW.

HTC knows how to make a quality phone with features that work well and you don't have to worry about not functioning properly.

I am also eligible for my upgrade right now, and I don't want to wait until June/July for the Droid Bionic.
I do currently have the original Moto Droid and it has been a pretty solid phone for me. It lags A LOT now and I don't even run many apps on it and use my task killer daily to help out with the issue but it is still really slow.
But I must say, after a nice 5-6 year absence from the good phone market, Moto is definitely winning me back.

When I got this Droid, I was very nervous because of the Moto name, but I would not h...

Drap ,
I am in the exact same position as you currently. It was a good run with my moto droid 1. I have been holding out to see which of the 4g Lte phones will be the best this spring. I am not really interested in the upcoming Iphone release next week, however does anyone know if Verizon will release a 4g Lte version of Iphone 5 in the summer? That could persuade me to wait.

No LTE iPhone this summer.

They are making them with GSM/CDMA combo in them, but they aren't going to do the LTE this year.

Which further makes me look at the ThunderBlot as my option.

I like the ability to do the NFC for payments and such, but there needs to be a clear standard across all retailers before I commit to doing that at all...

I am in the same boat. I really want the Thunderbolt but I worry about it upgrading to newer versions of Android because it doesn't have dual-core. I really love HTC Sense though.

I still can't decide...I need a new phone bad... I waited for the iPhone4 on VZ and was disappointed as many were (CDMA, etc.) I can get it for $99 (16G) with my $100 credit - a great value. BUT, have to sign a 2 year contract. This phone is outdated almost day 1. I would get this HTC if I had a better sense on when it would be available, what the phone pricing will be and what the service plans will look like (someone else on this forum said it was "free" I think???). This waiting is killing me. THIS FORUM IS AWESOME. I was getting really frustrated at the VZ store last night trying to decide and the Sales guy quietly told me to go home and check out this site as he could not answer my questions!

I'm also deciding between the thunderbolt and bionic but here's my thinking...the appeal of the bionic an nvidia tegra 2 dual core processor of course. That's about it. In comparison, the HTC thunderbolt of course has sense and mostly everything else going for it. Unfortunately however, it's only a single core processor. That's how I'm thinking about it. I mean I really want to get the thunderbolt, but in benchmark tests, the bionic will hopefully be running faster. The only thing is that I don't think android is fully optimized for dual core processing phones however ...

This forum is very helpful! I also have a Droid, ordered it on 11/6/09. Still love it, but it's time! I have been following the Moto & HTC 4G devices since announced. Love this T-Bolt, and will purchase it on 2/24/11. Big difference between the two devices, Bionic has a better resolution screen ( dual processor, please, I'll wait until they maximize the quad processors). T-Bolt has a better FFC, more ram, latest Snapdragon CPU,32GB Micro SD...and it's very sexy!!

Winner HTC!

Actually I thought that the thunderbolt had 768 MB ram, and the bionic had 1 gig of ram making it run faster. As for screen resolution, are you sure about the bionic having more resolution than the thunderbolt? The one reason I don't like the bionic is because of a llocked boot loader screen, and moto blur..unfortunately..

You're correct about the T-Bolt, not so sure about the Bionic. It actually has 512MB but X's2?? Check out this link to see a "fair comparison(scrool to middle of the page)! The resolution on Bionic was the major plus!

I checked out that link however it didnt tell me anything new. Haha I mean my head is thinking the bionic only for the dual core cchip. I'd like the thunderbolt, but even when I overclock it, there's only so much you can do to it. Whereas with the nvidia chip it's already clocked at 1 ghz and it'll obviously be dual core...I also looked at that Samsung 4g phone, but just like thunderbolt its just a single core 1 ghz chip. That's what I'm thinking.

Clearly you're far more advanced than I am,and I actually work for VZW.

Samsung would be my choice, with the Super Amoled Plus screen, though not sold on the look. But I'm ready to upgrade now, and also there are employee benefits that make it easier to do so!

Also as stated in earlier comments, not so sure Android OS is ready for dual cores...!

Imagine what will be next summer...!

Haha thanks for that comment I think. Lol as for the look of that samsung 4g phone, I completely agree;I'm not completely sold on its looks either and honestly out of all the 4g phones coming out, I think that the thunderbolt does look the nicest, cleanest and whatnot. As for the chipset, I've actually just got to play around with the phones, once they actually come into the stores. As it was also stated earlier, HTC build quality is of course top notch which is also quite appealing. Its also got that 1.3 MP front facing camera vs the bionics more basic VGA camera...unfortunately... these are all of the justification questions I'm asking myself of course. I wish they would've just put a dual core snapdragon chip inside of the thunderbolt...

Well at least you're informed, and I suspect dual cores appeal to you because you're a "gamer"! You've had hands on these phones...are you an "insider"?

Considering my Droid is 15 months, T-Bolt it is. I understand people calling it an Evo clone, but it's actually the bigger, stronger, better, faster, sexier, younger sibling!

I need an up close and personal in order to decide!

If it helps either of you out, the ThunderBolt will be able to, via update released down the road, to run at 1.2ghz speed according to the reports I have read. Which is why it has been beating the Bionic in speed tests so far.
The Bionic will have better resolution and a bit more RAM in it, but the Thunderbolt will have better performing cameras (both front and back), a better UI (HTC Sense vs MotoBlur), and it will be featured on the HTCSense.com website which will be very nice too!
The delays for the ThunderBolt release are two-fold:
1. They pushed it back so that the worry-free return timeframe will be over for the first batch of iPhone4 owners (14 days after February 10th)
2. There were some issues that they were working ou on some...

I was in VZW retail store the other day and phone is being delayed due to software issues. It seems we may be waiting a couple more months for this phone to become available, as he hinted its release would now be much closer to the Bionic which seems to be a May-June release timing.
