with LTE and the Verizon iPhone just around the corner?

Granted, it's about time Verizon Came Out With a Global Android, but this should have happened months ago.

At this point, I and almost everyone I know is waiting to see what the LTE models can really do before upgrading their phones.

The first devices released for LTE will be dedicated modems (USB, MiFi, etc). Phones won't start coming out very soon, and even when they do, I doubt we'll get anything as nice as this phone.

The iPhone lacks a physical keyboard, and is not running Android. That's a deal breaker for a whole lot of people, myself included (especially the lack of Android. I've played around with enough iPhones and iPads at work, setting up email accounts and testing websites to have a distaste for it).

It'd almost make sense, in general, to go and get the unlimited data plan in case Verizon decides to kill it off (being grandfathered in is a lovely thing). I really hope that they do not, especially as I'm sure a whole ton of people are going to swap over...

In the FWIW column, Verizon themselves were the first to suggest that I downgrade my minutes from 1400 to 700, because I was using less than 700. first on their website, and later they actually called my home number and said something to the effect of "We noticed you aren't using all your minutes, and you could save some money if you step to the 700 plan".

If you think about it, it does make sense from a business perspective, because of both the PR value from people like me posting in forums like this "I can't believe what Verizon just did for me!!" and from a pure customer retention standpoint, I am more likely to stay if I don't feel I'm getting overcharged. And if I am using less than 50% of my minutes, odds are good I'm going to fee...

There are two very big reasons that I switched from the Motorola Droid to the Droid 2 Global rather than the iPhone. One is Apple and the other is APPLE! For example, most of the useful apps for Droid are free...Apple apps cost cost cost...
Also, you can open up the Droid and increase the memory or change the battery if you so desire...Just try that with Apple anything. And best of all, you do not have Apple nosing into everything you do and telling you which computer you can and cannot connect to.
For my money that is worth a lot.
