How to unlock sounds for deletion???

OK...I tried downloading a few tones, but it tells me that I need to delete other tones first, due to space. When I try to delete them, it only says "delete all unlocked files?". How do I know which ones are locked or not? I would like to delete some of the "generic" sounds that came on the phone.
