V810 keeps getting delayed :(

I've been waiting to buy a cam phone for so long.

Verizon and Motorola keep delaying the release of V810 and thats so annoying cuz its supposed to be 25% lighter and smaller than other similiar phone from Samsung & Audiovox. Whats more annoying is that no cell phone manufacturer seems to be doing much R&D for CDMA phones.

On 2/13/04, in a email to me, a Motorola rep said that the V810 will be availble in March 04. And I got another email today (2/20/04) in which another Motorola rep said that the V810 will be out in the 2nd half of 2004.

Below are excerpts from emails from Motorola reps abouts the V810:

I'm about ready to give up on this one. I think the antenna being viewable in the camera lens problem is something Verizon won't go for.

At least the V710 looks to be a better model...but we may be waiting for it until 2005 the way these things roll out.

If only they would swap the GSM guts out of a V600 to make it CDMA we'd all be happy.

I am quite anxious for this friggin V810 as I am waiting for its release so I can promptly end my misery as an AT&T GSM customer. I was totally prepared to pay the $175 termination fee but it looks like I'll end up leaving "gracefully".

As for the delayed release, I am hopeful that Motorola/Verizon is using this time to test, retest and test again to make sure buggy phones don't end up in the consumers hands as with the T720 series across carriers.

Can anyone who is a current Verizon customer tell me if Verizon actually provides for firmware updates right in its stores?

The firmware, is in some stores, but not all. Its in the ones in NJ/NYC areas, or at least the actual stores. No Radioshacks or dealers have it, that I know of. Also, check to make sure the store is a "larger" one, if so, they should have it.

Just in and around Northern Jersey and NYC is where. At least thats where I know of. I am in Morris Co., NJ and I have seen it in Manhattan stores. Just realize, the larger the store, the more likely to have it, that is why RadioShack, and other liscined retailers do not have it.
