For many of us who have been waiting patiently for Motorola's v810, I stumbled upon a press release today with some very good news.

THE v880, which has not been well known at all and therefore there are very few pictures and information around the internet, will be released "early January"!

Here is a link with a little bit of information and a picture:

And here is a link to the press release from the Motorola web site. Notice the last line: "The new portfolio is made up of... 2 CDMA models, the Motorola V880 and model V875. They are expected to be in stores nationwide starting in early January." This release is from December, so it's not outdated; I would therefore assum...

THIS LOOKS GREAT, BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY WE WILL SEE THIS IN JANUARY. THESE PHONES HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN APPROVED BY THE FCC AND WE ALL KNOW THAT IT TAKES VERIZON AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AFTER THE FCC APRROVES THE HANDSET TO LAUNCH IT...MAYBE WE WILL HAVE THE PHONE BY CHRISTMAS 2004, IF WE ARE LUCKY.....HOPE I'M WRONG THOUGH......

and how is this good news? the press release does not mention one word about v810. All we can hope for is that they changed the model number of it for right now.

This is good news because from my understanding, this was an upgrade from the v810. The hope is that if the v880 will be released this month, then so will the v810. And regardless, many people might choose the v880 over the v810 if they are both made available.

Look at the web site link that I provided before (http://www.wapzon.com/web/devicedetail.asp?P id=3246&Bid=😎. There is a camera with color external caller ID. I cannot find out any definite information whether it will support AMPS (analong) and be tri-mode, but I would think that it would be considering that the v810 is.

Mulligan,

I hope you are right. I too have been waiting for a high quality phone from Verizon/Motorola for a very long time. The delays recently (missing the Holiday season) were very disappointing to me. Hopefully they now have their **** together and we'll see the phone sometime in January.

They are really far behind the 8 ball here by just now coming out with a decent camera phone. I just hope the wait is worth it. I have considered switching over to Cingular or T-mobile to take advantage of their free giveaway on the Sony Ericcson T610 or whatever that phone is b/c it is so sweet compared to anything offered by Verizon.

I hope the 810 comes out in the next few weeks and that it is under $200. Lets keep our fingers crossed!...

This is a totally different phone, just to claify... not a changed model number (from my understanding).
