Is it really better? My son has the droid and it is SOOOOOO much faster using the internet compared to my Blackberry. SO, I was considering the droid 2.

I'd love to hear your opinions on how the keyboard is.. Thanks!

There were at least two keyboards released on the original droid, the original original had a flat keyboard that had like a peice of rubber with small grooves seperating the keys, then there is at least one other with plastic buttons that are slightly raised.

The keyboard on the droid 2 is like the second droid keyboard, only the layout is different. It is a huge improvement over the original droid's keyboard but its pretty much the same as the other original droid's keyboard.

in otherwords, your question can not really be answered without knowing what the keyboard on your son's droid is like

I don't have enough evidence to contradict you directly, however, I had heard that the keyboard seems to bubble up more as it is used more. (on the OG droid). On mine, I barely used the keyboard. However, my wife recently got one, and she uses hers all the time; according to her, once you get used to it, it works pretty well. In addition, It is worth pointing out that what I had heard appears to be true: since I heard that, I have from time to time devote a conscious effort to using the keyboard (and even on occasion, rubbing across all the keys to "work" them), and indeed, as the keyboard is getting more use, the buttons are popping up more.

FWIW, my theory is that the plastic is being stretched by use, causing it to expand slightly....

Yes, it's much better. Now that they got rid of the D-pad it's also bigger.
But some reviews have said, if you have the original Droid wait for an upgrade credit. But if you don't already have a Droid and want one get the Droid2.

i held out on getting the original droid because of the d-pad, not because of the keys themselves as i didn't have a problem with them...it was the off-centered keys that i couldn't get used to. the d2 does away with that d-pad and raises the keys to a very slight dome-shape. i'm having no problem typing on it, and i came from an enV touch. in fact, i think i like typing on the d2 better than the touch.
