Data tethering

Sep 2, 2010, 10:24 AM
Is VZW going to charge extra for data tethering or wi-fi hotspot?

Of course they charge for it... its verizon 20$ a month for the hotspot and at the moment there is no tether possibility

Once it gets 2.2, it will most likely be an extra $20 for tethering just like every other carrier requires money for tethering.

The only exception is the Nexus One because it is carrier unlocked so they can't control the software.

TMobile, no charge for WiFi or Tethering. Just have to have service in that area

Tmobile also doesn't offer wifi tethering on anything but the Nexus One (at least for android, as per their FAQ on the G2)

I am NOT talking about the Nexus One. I am talking about any phone that carriers are a loud to control

Tether now offers its app for droid phones. Works great on BB. One-time $50 fee for app (sometimes on sale). No other carrier charges to use tether.

Sprint does not offer a phone as modem plan anymore. Some phones offer a hotspot function, but this is extra per month.

ATT charges extra for tethering as well. On the iphone it is an extra $20 a month with no included data.

Tmobile only offers tethering on a select few phones, again with an additional fee.

EVERY carrier charges for tethering, if they offer it at all
