I currently have an Iphone 3g and becaue of the Ios4 update I definitely need something else. Ios4 has slowed it down to the point it is annoying. So heres my dilemma:

Do I get an Iphone 4 or do I get an HTC Evo 4g?

Give me honest opinions. I use my phone a lot. Mostly for social networking and texting. i have a lot of apps on my iphone that I love like IMDB and FML but most of what I use it available on Android as well. I know about the price difference, but Ive been paying for ATT for years so it wont be a big deal to continue. Anyway, let me know what you think.

I posted this in the Evo forums too just to be fair.

All depends on the carrier and whether or not you get service for that particular in the areas that you live, work and frequent the most. I would go with the Evo for the price savings and bigger screen. More screen real estate is more important to me than pixels, just my opinion.

You do not have to go to the Evo. The Samsung Captivate will be releasing soon, Samsung claims there Super AMOLED screen is better than the iPhone 4. Samsung does make some of the best HDTV's. The LG Aloha is also releasing soon, both of these devices are very similar and share a lot of the same components. The Samsung Captivate and LG Aloha should both release with Android 2.2 with Flash 10.1. The Android device I will be purchasing later this year when it finally releases is the Dell Streak 5. Hope this helps.

Iphone advantages over EVO. (according to phonescoop's review)

1) Battery life!!! (how long can you go between charges without turning all the features off)
2) Screen resolution
3) Camera- megapixels not as high, but takes pictures better in different light levels and much quicker.
3) HD video- records video better than any other hd capable phone
4) Gaming- reviewer stated it rivals PSP and Nintendo DS
5) Ease of use
6) Internet page loading- said its faster than any other smartphone. He also said he was surprised 3g could go that fast.
7) Faster wi-fi: Newest version of wi-fi
Media- itunes/iphone combo better than anything else on the market
9) Touchscreen- Seamless. NO lag. Best touchscreen on the market.
10) Noise cancellati...

Your post is misleading. The iPhone is NOT faster than the EVO 4G in any way. Every real world test showing on the net right now disputes your claim. I also get the smae battery life out of my EVO that I did my iPhone 3GS.

The only real advantages the iPhone has over the EVO is it's amazing camera, it's amazing screen resolution, and a smoother touch interface. I would aslo call the build quality an advantage since the iPhone is crazy well built.

The advantages the EVO 4G can claim are faster real world function, bigger screen, better social networking, Flash support, more customization, better browser (IMHO), and a better network.

If someone wants a device that is a browser and social network tool that can also make calls and take ...

I did not say the actual data transfer speeds of the iphone's 3g was faster than the EVO's 4g. I just said the actual page loading was faster. There is a difference between page loading and the actual data transfer.

From phonescoop's review of the iphone 4:
"Data was another story entirely. It was blazing fast and, so far, very reliable. Apple has clearly concocted some new magic to make this one of the fastest - if not the fastest web browsing phones on the market. Again. I really had no idea AT&T's 3G network could send me web pages over the ether so fast; apparently all it needed was the right phone on the receiving end. A new standard had been set."

That still does not say it loads faster than the EVO, and you will have to ignore every side by side test on the net to pretend it does.

One of the fastest but not the fastest. You simply have to look at side by side tests to find that out. I guess you would prefer to remain willfully ignorant if it suits your need to support Apple. In some ways a new standard has been set by this phone. Camera and quality of build are two of those standards. Speed and performance are not.

The new standard was set for data speeds. Read the article. He wasn't talking about anything else. Again, I have given numerous sources regarding data speeds. You talk big but haven't provided any sources. I'm waiting...

And that is an adsolute lie which is easily dispelled with only a small bit of research. Yet you chose to repeat it instead of learn that it is untrue. That speaks volumes to your credibility.

Sources=creditability. Ever been to college? Still waiting...

By the way, I am not saying you are wrong. I am asking for sources to prove your point.

That is where we differ because I am definitely saying you are wrong.

All you have to do is look up any speed test on the net and you will see the EVO winning the vast majority of the time (both on WiFi and on 3G).

Your own personal lack of research (or lack of desire to find the truth) does not relieve you of the burden of proving your claims. Especially when you give no evidence byond vaguely written statements taken out of context from an online review.

Concerning your statement, "Especially when you give no evidence byond vaguely written statements taken out of context from an online review." I posted the links to the ENTIRE articles. You still haven't read them, have you? Your ignorance amazes me.

First comparison I pulled up...iphone 4 wins.

I could only find a few other videos. In one, the EVO loaded a web page faster by less than a second. The other, the iphone 4 loaded 4 times faster than the EVO on 3g and about the same as the EVO on 4g. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpjfxQqsb-Y)

You said all I have to do is look up "any" speed test on the net and I would see the EVO winning the vast majority of th...

Actually, that is not always true. I am a long time iPhone user and I made the switch to EVO easily. I actually prefer it. Of course I am not a gamer and use my phone more as an internet device than anything else. I tried to use my new iPhone 4 yesterday after I picked it up and cannot go back to the small screen. I felt like I was trying to type on a postage stamp.

IMHO I think it all depends on what you need your phone to do and what you primarily use your phone for. I will just do a few side by side comparisons. I hope this helps.

Internet Browsing: Winner is EVO. Mobile Safari is great but it is well documented that it has no flash support so popular sites like ESPN will NOT even show on your phone. You will be stuck viewing the WAP version. EVO however has some flash support on board when you first purchase the device. As well as access to the best mobile browser available (IMO) with Skyfire which has the ability to play ALL desktop content on your mobile phone.

Customization: Winner is EVO. You can simply do more in terms of curtailing the phone to your liking. Don't like the home screen, ch...
