What good will this "AMAZING" phone be without an unlimited data plan?

Can someone please explain to me, how Att figures that they will be succesful selling this phone or any smartphone for that matter, when you are no longer going to be offering unlimited data plans for new customers. As it is the horror stories of Att's 3G service are well known. To that you limit the ability to use your phone for streaming video or say SlingBox what good will this device be? Sure if you want to be price gouged I guess you can keep buying "buckets" of mins. I feel I'd have to be as rich as Steve Jobs to be able to use Apples new phone on Att's network. Does it make sense to invest in this purchase?

It makes sense for someone like me as I use Wifi more than 3G. I use Wifi at home, work, friends. I dropped down to the 200mb plan because I only use about 30mb a month. I don't stream music & no Slingplayer. I'm sure there are others out there like me.

This is just such a rip off...they cut down the unlimited plans so they could keep stealing money from their costumers. By not given the unlimited data planS, people are going to start using the video call feature and using more data which means people are gonna go over their "add-on data limited plan" and they are gonna pay more..Got to go Att you guys are so smart at stealing people's money 🤤

video call feature is only available through wifi...Which doesnt counttowards the limited plan. I think the other carriers will move to this as well.Customers cant get it straight... First the majority is mad that PDAs require a $30 package.. Now that there are cheaper packages available the gripe is about the restrictions??? How about Americans start being responsible (watching your usage) instead of looking for a scapegoat.

Completely understood. But at the same time we all know in a time not far from now video call will stop being only on wifi and it will be part of the network. At the same time technology is evolving and every day we start to use more data example the new netflix app, I'm pretty sure this is gonna use a lot of data like any other apps on the making. I am just saying that Att knows about this and they want to cash on it. And it is not about being careful with your usage because if you have a phone that can do some many things you want to be able to take advantage of all of the features (thats why you are paying 299.99 or more for a device) I mean isn't this the reason why we get a pda or smartphones to have the web at our finger tips? and be a...

I am for the idea because senseless use of the network is what causes it to bog down so much.. Sure the phone has the ability to stream movies through the netflix app...but who the hell wants to watch a full length film on a 3.5" screen???? The limitations bring more practicality to internet usage on phones. Will At&t make money due to this change??? Of course they will! But thats the point innit?

Last point I agree..but it is also a low blow to new costumers you know..i know the idea of watching a full movie in a screen so small in not the great but if you are always on the move (myself military service man) is not bad to sit on a bus and watch a full movie from point a to point b..and make the uncomfortable trip a little bit more pleasant and make it feel a lot faster....but i guess it all comes down to us costumers that are willing to get this service ,and decide if it worth it or not..it was nice having this civilize conversation with you, not to many times you find having a conversation with somebody not agreeing in one point before it goes all out of the window 😉 ...i guess i will be seeing you around .....

Well I am glad to see that the replies were indeed civilized. it just has to be remembered however, that these devices are evolving into more than just phones. ATT had to suspend taking preorders at 600,000. Because people DO want to watch streaming movies on PROMISED fast networks, because phones are coming with 4+inch screen displays with superpixel counts. Everything about these devices scream for data usage. To say that responsibility on the part of the consumer is required is to look at one side of the coin, but responsibility on the part of the carriers- ensuring a quality highspeed network as PROMISED is the other side of that coin. If ATT is perfectly content to keep selling more and more of these phones knowing they cant deliver wha...

In reality it all does make sense!!!!!!!!! Majority of people that do not have the Iphone do not have it because they refuse to pay 30 dollars for the net. Lowering the price helps alot more people afford the phone. In reality not very many people even come close to 200 megs. Working at a ATT store many people come in and are wondering if they could lower there internet plan and not go over. Not one person that I have seen has been any where near the alotted amount. This is a good thing for ATT and the customers. ATT sells more phones and customers finally get the net at a much cheaper price. Not saying that an unlimited plan should'nt be available(it should) but it will work for now!

Fine, then they should have offered a cheaper capped data package along side their unlimited plan, I have no bitch with that. But you have to be an idiot to cut $5.00 from your bill to go from unlimited to 2mb. Yes right now, it may be enough for most users, but in times to come and it isn't going to be long, it won't be. Slimim, I give you respect because you admit whom you work for and your opinion, I don't for the rest of these shills who preach how we should use our devices, and how poor AT&T can't keep up with it or how they are losing revenue.

YOU watch your usage, I just want to enjoy the phone, be it Android or iPhone. Stop telling people how they should live, because AT^T can't keep up with usage, don't blame the consumer. Sure if they wanted to offer a stripped down plan along side the $30 unlimited, good ...

Yes they are others like you who only use about 30mb a month. there are millions like jjfrance and me who use 30mb in 30 seconds so we need the unlimited. It is wrong for any cell phone company to market high end devices with limited data plans. to fully enjoy those devices like iphone 4, you will use a lot of data. If ATT can't afford it on its 3g networks, they should market it on their 3g network.

ps. wifi eats up your battery. it's a lil known fact that everyone knows. wifi all the time means charging your phone multiple times a day.
