"Better" is objective, it's a matter of reputation with your preferred manufacturer.

Motorola in particular has a very durable physical body, which does add some weight and mass to the phone, but you can rest assured knowing if you dropped it out of your purse or pocket, it wont shatter like other phones will.

Samsung Fascinate is just as fast if not faster, screen is wider (4.3) and the dynamics of touch sensitivity are pretty impressive. A downside is that its body mass, if dropped from more than a few feet, may not be able to withstand the fall as good as the DROIDX.

It also, unlike the DROID X, has a 6 Axis Accelerometer, meaning if you hold it up to the sky to use the Constellation App that all droids have, you can even hold it diagonal, upside down, twisted to a corner and etc. It will still be spot on when picking up information, while DROID X only has a 4 Axis Accelerometer and can only handle four different ways of being held and twisted before it gets confused and causes minor glitches.

This plays somewhat of a big roll in Mobile Gaming, holding the phone horizontal and twisting it to steer an electronic car would be alot more responsive and enjoyable on a Fascinate due to its Axis flexibility.

To sum it up for you so you can understand better, if you're more of a gamer than a web surfer, I'd definitely say Fascinate would be for you.

If you don't care much for mobile gaming but want everything else, Droid X is your best bet.
