My contract expires November of next year and I am the only one on my account so I am eligible to upgrade every year but that isn't until November of this year. Since Verizon is offering anyone that is eligible to upgrade this year to upgrade early to the Droid X will I be able to take advantage of this since I am would be upgrading on the one time a year deal? My other question is would I just pay the 199.99 or 199.99 plus 20.00 or what? Thanks any response is appreciated.

To answer your first question, no you'll have to wait until november to get the discounted pricing. THe upgrade extension only counts for 2year upgrades.

So to get it on the 15th would be full retail?

yes. But on the upside, your old phone might get you some money on ebay to help cover the cost

Yeah I have the original Droid. Also have the charging dock and GPS thing for your car. Any idea on what I could expect to get? How much is the X outright??

x will most likely be around 600 or so,

If your phone, and both docks are in great condition you could get 200 or so for it.. amybe as much as 350

Not to contradict you, since I think you know more about this than I do, but it was my understanding from a post elsewhere (probably Android Central...) that if you are eligible for ANY upgrade in 2010, you can upgrade on July 15th, to the Droid X (technically, I believe you can upgrade to any smartphone, under the terms of the promotion)

The flyer posted seems to be saying that those eligible for an early renewal are not eligible, but then again, that exclusion really only makes sense if you consider that they are ALREADY eligible for the discount pricing, so there is no "special promotion" for them to be eligible for.

it's possible, but i really don't see them doing it. the last flyer I saw was talking about how NE2 and buddy upgrades don't work with it. I'll have to dig into it more

I do not work for VZW, and I don't have any contacts there, so, I could be wrong. In anything that matters, if Menno and I disagree, I'd trust him before I trust me.

There is supposed to be an "early Upgrade" program for smartphones running through July. there is a distinct lack of clarity on if it applies to annual/early upgrades.

This is a snapshot of the internal form listing the upgrade policy. (I can confirm this through my own contacts)

At the moment, it says annual upgrades are not eligible for the promotion.

But that document also says that it's contract ending in 2010 (meaning upgrade dates would only be pushed foreward a month or so) which doesn't make sense. So maybe the policies arn't final yet?

They way I see it, if you're eligible for an annual upgrade, you don't NEED the special promo, because you are already going to get the discounted price anyway.

There is also a report from the Launch event that Verizon stated at the time that if you were eligible for any upgrade in 2010, you'd be able to upgrade to the DroidX.

I kinda hope it's true, but I also kinda hope not. If it is true, then I could upgrade on July 15. But since I really can't justify plunking $300 for a new phone (even more without the upgrade) anyway, I am pretty much resigned to the fact that even if I COULD, I won't. So I kinda hope I wouldn't be eligible. That way, I can use that as the excuse for not getting one. 🙂

Just got off the phone with the Verizon Rep and he couldn't tell me I would be able to upgrade to the Droid X before November or not. He said that I had all the qualifications for the upgrade but he couldnt tell if it would work for the Droid X or not since he couldn't do anything until the 15th of July. He did tell me full retail is going to be 570.00 for the X and they were doing no preorder on the X directly through Verizon despite what people were saying on other forums. One guy even claimed on another forum that they already shipping him his X.

Internal webpage of Verizon's intra net confirmed that there will be no pre orders, and that your CONTRACT must end by 12/31/2010 in order to upgrade to the Droid X or any other smartphone offered by verizon.
