I am super excited to finally being able to jump onto a full powered Android phone. I 'upgraded' to the BackFlip a few months ago but returned it a few weeks later. Back then I didn't really know much about the Android OS, my upgrade was pretty spontaneous, but I somehow knew there was something missing about the OS. It just didnt feel 'right'.

But I have been looking forward to this phone for about 2 months now.

Here's my question:

Anyone see any obvious limitations or negative features about this phone???

Personally I wish it had the keyboard like the Sprint version and I wish is had a damn flash for the camera. Seems pretty easy to have this basic feature on a phone.

A few drawbacks but not deal breakers.
The UI can drag the phone down. you'll need to get rid of most of the samsung widgets. they cause lag and freezing. This will hopefully be fixed with the next firmware update. so that's pretty much it.
The battery is great (relative to others like it)
The screen is the best short of the retina display on the iPhone 4. if you put the phones side by side and start up an avi file you'll notice the captivate is superior...(iPhone can't handle avi) hehe. I hope PS does an InDepth review for each galaxy S phone.
I will buy if the above is fixed with 2.2

The phone is by no means slow !!! Have never had mine freeze up. Have almost 22 hrs of use on it. With the sophisticated CAMERA software that comes with the unit, flash is really unimportant & is not very effective over 2-3' anyway. If you want a killer phone, this is the one, guaranteed 😎 The more u use it the more u like it. Switched from iphone. Had used iphone since 2G, couldn't see diff on iphone 4, even had IOS 4 loaded on my 3GS. Extremely impressed with Captivate Galaxy S, speed, 720P video, 3D capable, surround sound, 16GB internal with
external microSD card, 1 GHz Hummingbird processor with 3X speed GUI, lovely 4" Super AMOLED screen, lightweight, metal back plate with simple but excellent locking system, etc. etc. etc.

you must have the most perfect captivate and probably the only perfect one..this phone can lag when trying to open apps or whatever..once open..most other apps open with ease..but this phone does lag sometimes, the surround sound is only thru earbuds not thru the phone speaker.

Actually it has 3 vitrual keyboards.

Android
Samsung
Swype

All three work great and quite easy to switch between them.

I have gotten to play with the phone for a bit and rather like it. I done lots of testing with the Vibrant and the Captivate is pretty much identical. It's fast, accurate, very easy to use, lots of memory. The camera takes very nice pictures (yes no flash...which is a bit annoying). All in all, a great phone series with lots of potential.
