Memory question

According to most of the websites I've looked at, this phone has 16gb of built in memory, and has a micro sd slot as well. Is that correct?

Just so I'm clear on this, it can have a total of 48GB? 16GB internal and 32GB sd card?

Thats what I have read. It said it would have 16gb internal and then have an expandable memory card slot. I've seen some sites that say it will support a 16GB and other sites that say 32GB so I am not positive on which it will support.

This review implies it has 512MB of internal RAM plus the sd card. So I'm guessing it comes with a 16GB card and you can upgrade it to 32GB total. Still a little unclear though, but that's my guess.

From page 3 of the review: "Samsung packs the Captivate with its own 1-GHz Hummingbird processor and 512MB of RAM. You also get 16GB of RAM, which you can expand to 32GB."

RAM is not storage memory. They're distinct types of memory. It has 512 MB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory for storage.

Then you can add a memory card for even more memory. Like most phones, if it supports a 16 GB card, it should support 32 GB, but whether they state that in the specs just depends on the card sizes available when they did the testing.

What trips me up is he says (ignoring his misuse of RAM): "You also get 16GB of RAM, which you can expand to 32GB." To me that implies the 16GB is not internal, but the card, which can then be upgraded to 32GB total.

However, I now think that review is wrong, and that it is 16GB internal PLUS the sd card for a potential total of 48GB. It's still not explicitly clear though.

From att: "16 GB on-board memory for photos, videos, and music – expandable memory up to 32 GB"

Other sites say something similar to this: "Storage: 16 GB of internal storage with up to 32GB microSD"

You're right, not that I didn't believe you in the first place, but the CNET review confirms it.

"The Captivate offers 16GB of internal memory, plus an expansion slot (supports up to 32GB cards)"

From everything I've read, it comes with 512Mb of internal RAM, PLUS 16GB of internal storage (not regular ram but sd-like storage) and the card slot is empty to let you put in an additional 16GB or 32GB (depending on which source is correct)

Thanks for all the clarification. I assumed it was an error because it's not common (that I know of) to have such a large amount of on board memory and also have sd storage. At one point I thought I read that it had one gig of internal storage and the sd slot that can expand to 32 gb (which seems much more realistic) but I can't find that anywhere and everybody here has helped to confirm that it is actually 16 gb of internal storage.

The Captivate will have 16GB INTERNAL memory. it will also have a Micro SD slot which can accept a 32 GB card or lower.
