Evo Fee

I'm happy for all the people who are willing to pay 10$ for 4g because they have access to it but the fact is most people don't. At the moment about 30 million have access to it which is < 10% of the country. 120 by years end 33% of the country. So charging 10 for your flagship phone and saying its for a service that only 10% will have access to is retarded. I'm fine with sprint charging for the service but allow me the option to buy your clear best phone without having to use 4g and pay for it. I think sprint should take it to the next level and have a mandatory charge for 5G, obviously people are blindly willing to pay.

Yeah, I mean its crazy to think you would ever travel into a 4G area with a Mobile phone. Or that Sprint would actually have to spend money to grow the network out.

Yeah crazy, I should buy a house in Ohio because I might visit sometime. If you want to develop your network charge the people who will use it which I'm sure you one of. I pay for 3G and I’m happy with it, I just want a better device to access it. So it’s not like sprint doesn’t get money from its customers who can’t use 4g but still want a nice phone. They just want something for nothing.

I guess you missed my point then, because the Evo is the phone for me, as I already own the Pre and I am looking to upgrade my device but not my service. Comprende. 4G is what is not for me. Why the 2 are tied together I have no idea.

Services will always be upgrading whether u want them to or not. Everyone knows that you have to go with the flow or be left out. And if u think this is so bad, what do u think about the people that HAVE to pay $30 extra just to have the iPhone? I'm gladly gonna pay $10 x 2 (getting 2 Evo's), because I know I'm still paying less than the suckers with the other carriers and that 4G will be available in my area shortly.

Agreed iPhone users are getting ripped off. I enjoy the 40$ cost advantage I have on them for pretty much the same service. But the same would be true to a smaller extant with the service I have now verse the service I would be getting mind you only 10 dollars but still. And I'm not saying that I would ever want 4G, just at the moment it isn't worth 10$ due to it poor coverage, and apparently it doesn't work inside buildings which has me worried for the future.

FINALLY!!! SOMEONE IS ON THE SAME PAGE AS I AM. I said the same thing and some gentlemen on here tried to justify what sprint is about to unfold. I think it's very wrong!...that sprint would do such a thing. I mean...we anticipated this phone for so long and now that we finally found out when it is coming out, they go and say something like this?! I really hope they have a change of mind because most customer will want either the Evo or the Iphone 4G!

ATT rate plan for an Iphone

69.99 unlimited minutes
30.00 Data Plan (mandatory and can not be removed)
20.00 unlimited text messages
10.00 ATTnavigation
_____
129.99 for a single Iphone

Sprint
69.99 unlimited calls to any cell phone, 450 landline minutes, free nights and wkends, unlimited data, unlimited text, Sprint Navigation included
10.00 4G Premium
______
79.99

^Is that what everyone is so upset about? That Sprint is only $50 cheaper to own and support a superior product on a superior network (3g OR 4g) when they should be $60 cheaper? When it comes down to dollars and sense the argument against the $10 holds no weight, especially when comparing the two products with their rate plans side-by-side. Sprint is the much b...

I'm going to try and keep it simple and play a game called greater than or equal to.

79.99 is > 69.99
In my area 4G is = 3G
Evo w/o 4G is > every other phone sprint offers (by far)

I don't see how people can't grasp this. I'm sure everyone would be pissed if your cable company charged you more for the same service because you got a new TV.

note I said same service.

well, clearly the $10 a month is to subsidize the cost of the handset regardless if 4G is available in your area.

The problem with this is paying extra is that a new better phone will doubtlessly be available soon and they'll be begging you to buy this one.

So say you're allowed to get the phone w/out the $10 buy-up (and this would have to be nation-wide as you can't segment a rate plan into little sub-sections when you're a nation-wide carrier) and in doing so you agree to pay overage every time you accessed ANY information on the 4G network. Say they did that knowing they're going to more than double their 4G coverage by the end of this year. How long before people everywhere are getting heart-attacks-bills in the mail with a ton of overages and Sprint is right back in the muck that they've worked hard and long to keep themselves out of. The $10 isn't as nearly cut and dry as you would like to think it is.

Im going to counter your stupid argument with one of my own...

Sprint is not forcing you to buy a new phone...It is also not making the 10 dollars a mandatory charge. If you want the best phone Sprint has to offer, then buy it and pay the small fee that is associated with it. If not, buy a hero or a moment.

If you have any knowledge of the phone industry, or how much it costs to create the 4g network, then you would have known that there would be some sort of data charge on such devices. Stop being such a moron and be thankful that they are only charging you ten dollars.

The only thing you have right is that your argument is stupid. It is essentially a fee to use a device, not a service that costs them anything as I can't use 4G. How can someone support that. If cable provide X sells you cable and charges you for 10Mbps but you only get 1 probably wouldn't be to happy. So why is this acceptable?

I love the warming sentiment of it's only 10$. Where is the threshold where paying something for nothing becomes too much. (90% of Americans now and 66% at years end. So your in the minority of people who get to use what you pay for)

It's only 20$, 50$, 100$. Who knows with you, pick it out of a hat.

That is sound financial advice from a person who is not a moron, which I assume you aren't because you calle...

seriously man? its $10 per month. this is a very simple issue, 4g is not something that can be selectively turned on & off by sprint. if you are in a 4g area, you will receive 4g data service. if you are in 3g it will work over 3g. there is no way, and it is completely retarded to try and bifurcate sprints data service so cheap people like you can save $10. further, any cheap guy like yourself could order a 4g phone, not pay the $10 then go to a 4g area. its pointless for them to give you 3g access when 4g is available.

as technology progresses, rate plans will progress. thats just how things work. and the fact 4g only costs $10 is an awesome thing for sprint to do. I dont have 4g either. i split time between LA and San Diego, ...

I dream of one day when shutting off a radio in my phone is possible. Maybe in 20 year technology will progress to a point where I can turn off the WiFi or bluetooth in my phone. Some day lets keep dreaming for now though.

I'm glad you don't care about 10$. But if your gonna spend 10$ don't you think you should get your monies worth. ahh the insight you can get from a Quiznos commercial.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& I already have unlimited 3G, so still nothing.

Evo is also a 3G phone so I can still use it.

im only going to say a couple of things. the 10 dollar premium charge is silly i am not going to lie but yeah 4g speeds are awesome and to pay 10 dollars for that service would be fine by me. and like other people have said this phone may run off the 3g networks but its a 4g phone if sprint wants to charge and extra 10 dollars for this service they can look at your contracts. plans and contracts can change on a whim thats what you sign if you dont like it there is the door or like others suggest if you want a damn good phone but with 3g network then go with the hero or the moment both are on par with the evo besides the 4g network and little features here and there so why not invest in that and later on 2 years down the line when you are eli...

i apologize that you are upset about this $10 fee but I work for the company in a call center & I can explain the fee to you. This fee is not just b/c of the internet. the 3G internet is still free through the data plan on the non-4G phone. This fee is like the HD upgrade fee. When you upgrade your service through your cable company from SD to HD they charge an extra fee b/c of the extra capabilities. same thing with this phone. This is an HD phone on the 4G wireless network. There are things on this phone that the reg. data plan can't handle due to the enriched capabilities of this phone. also just so you know the 69.99 EVERYTHING DATA is unlimited data. I have seen customer use over 10G of data on their cell phones. and there is no cap on ...

You should thank God then, that you live in America, because in America we have choices. In our economic system, the supplier sets a price for his product, and then the consumers have the CHOICE to purchase the product at that price or not. In this particular situation, Sprint has decided that their new phone will be popular enough that they can charge $200 for the phone and add $10/month to the plan. If the consumers choose not to purchase them in sufficient numbers, then the company may drop the price. Its the American capitalist system. Many people call it supply and demand. It seems to work pretty well most of the time.

Does anyone have a link or anything that indicates whether the fee will be charged in 3g markets as well or whether it will be charged in just 4g markets? I can understand only charging it in 4g markets and I agree with those who are not happy about paying it when they're in 3g markets.

It will be a charge in all markets according to sprint regardless on 4G use and access. If sprint only charge the people who could use 4G they would be able to charge very many people. Things can change though, not in the first couple months however.

I think if Sprint has faith in their product(read 4G) They should have it as optional additional service. Charge it per MB if you don't have the 10$ option. Allow it for free for 15 days and if people like it they upgrade and people who don't want it can disable it on their phone. Let the product speak for itself, don't bundle it with something that is a lock for awesome to boost the numbers for 4G, and gimp the numbers for the Evo. I know a half dozen people who flip flopped on the Evo becau...

I have no problem paying for this fee since I have a discount on it and I am in an 3G only area.....but I sent an email to Sprint to see which "features" would work/not work w/ or w/o this fee and I had a few responses and then a call back. Seems like it all points to 4G!

*The $10 Premium Data fee:

- Is not a charge for 4G service.

- For a rich data experience that EVO provides whether in 3G or 4G

**With the $10.00 premium data add-on pack, you will be able to use internet at a very fast speed. It enhances the speed of internet surfing. Services grows as Internet needs grow. Average uplink speeds are 3 - 6 Mbps.

Well that's a good way to put! If Sprint wanted the service to be a dollar this second, it will. Why? Because it's al in the billing system. Whatever you set in the billing system to recognize the Evo when it contacts the sprint network is completely up to sprint. So even if they wanted to charge a hundred dolllars they could. But I'm just going to put up with it and pay the 10 dolars. Only because I like that phone. But, just as soon as I find a better service, imma switching!!! You did well by making sprint concut this jebrish excuse for us 😁
