No, $10 fee for the Evo 4G is not mandatory

If I'm reading the email I got from sprint correctly, the $10 premium only applies to "existing data plans starting at $59", presumably to upgrade those plans to unlimited data access. The unlimited data plans (simply everything plans), starting at $69 for an individual and $129 for a family of 2 up to $169 for a family of 4, shouldn't have any extra fee for the Evo.

Like I said it's just how I'm reading the email I got from sprint, but the $10 fee isn't mentioned until after they talk about "standard data plans starting at $59". So if you ask me, I'm still thinking there will be no extra fee (except for the wifi hotspot one) for using the 4g on an existing everything data plan. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong.

That is not true, read the article from sprint about the release event and listen to the engadget Podcast.
