The reason that most Androids have such low battery life is that Android OS is fairly bulky and there's not a native provision for shutting down apps running in the background (task manager). Install one from the Market though and you should see an increase in bettery life. The reason that RIM products have such a large battery life, even running on IDEN, is that BB OS has always been a very lean program. That's also why RIM can get away with not using 1Ghz processors and still get snappy response with few lags or software loops.
