Of course this phone will require a data plan. I am currently a sprint employee and I personally know for a fact that any "android" phone has got to have some sort of data plan, so this phone will need one also. And the only good thing about this phone and it data pack is that it isn't a friggin blackberry and the data pack is going to be $15 instead of $30 lol , And I'm fairly certain that it will be avail to Sprint customers as well because of the CDMA frequencies it is built to run off of,
