Not so much about the Nexus One, but AT&T basically ignored the Open Handset Alliance, of which TMO and Sprint didn't and joined.
I'm sure things will change, if AT&T wants a killer Android phone, just like what happened with VZW and the Moto-Droid, believe me, HTC, Motorola or whomever will provide one for them. They are a large 85 million plus carriers and for the most part can get what they want.
