Not true. T-Mobile USA uses the 1700 band, AKA "AWS". Europe uses the 2100 band. They're different and not compatible.
Confusingly, some people call the AWS band "1700/2100", but don't take that to mean it's related to the "2100" band they use in Europe. They're different.
The Nexus One does support 2100, but that's extra support added by HTC. Many T-Mobile 3G phones will not work on 3G networks in Europe.
