only had the phone for 2 weeks and i just noticed the silver lining on the outside (the trim section adjacent to the removable faceplate) chipped! sameday, walked to att store, and the floor model had a chip in the same place, wth?

i need to get a new case. i was using the oem motorola case, but i'm thinking about getting a case that actually stays on as whereas the one i'm using now, i have to take my phone out of the case everytime i make a call. sigh. maybe i should report the phone stolen =P

Hey Dj

I had the same problem. It first was a crack by the camera lense and then a piece of the silver chipped off with a piece of the black bezel.

My phone is an unlocked unbranded so I had to send to Motorola to have it replaced. Since then no problem.

Good Luck and I know how frustrating it could be. I had mine for about a month and it happened. A week later my girlfriends camera stopped working. That one also had to be sent in to be fixed. you can imagine how glad I was.

"My phone is an unlocked unbranded so I had to send to Motorola to have it replaced. Since then no problem."

Michko,

So you're telling me Motorola replaced the phone free of charge just because the silver lining chipped? I thought they would only replace if there was a functional defect? How did you go about replacing it? And when you say unlocked, unbranded... why does that matter?

Thanks!

I bought the v600 case Motorola makes. Very nice and well constructed. Stays on the phone and protects about 80% of the surfaces. Was only 29.99. get it from their website. It's nice in that thge case has two sections and is flexible to use when on the phone. No need to ever remove from the case, except when you're showing it off... LOL! (Blibg Bling!)
AT&T has the same one in their stores but branded wiht AT&T packaging (exactly the same style, I think only the stitching color is different). I've had my AT&T version of the v600 since mid March and it looks BRAND new when pulled out of the case.

Thanks everybody for your responses. Good to know??? that others have had the same problems. Just called ATT, and they're sending me a new phone. Told them of the crack but also said I was having recpetion problems just in case they gave me a hard time. Too bad its on backorder, but it should arrive within few business days.

Regarding a case, I looked up quite a few and I have to say the CODI case is the best. Krussel is good too but the case shifts too much and the mic hole dosen't line up with mic. Motorola oem cases are OK but I don't like the stitching. I think CODI has nicer designs.

Got the techno silver grey, with the spring clip.

I didn't know about the CODI cases. Almost identical to the Motorola case i have except for the clip (theirs is nice, mine is HUGE). I might check those out, and thanks for the info . . . 🙂 🙂

Ok few things

1) if you didn't buy it thru a phone store (ie AT&T or Cingular) then you are going to probably have to deal directly with Motorola for warranty work.

2) I stated that it's unlocked and unbranded so you know that my phone was not thru AT&T or Cingular or Vodaphone. It is a Motorola phone that came in Motorola packaging directly from them.

3) They did not replace the phone, they repaired the bezel. The whole phone is covered under warranty for 1 year.

I hope this helps. I don't know if you got yours from Cingu or AT&T, but if you did, they'll exchange it for you. If you didn't like in my case, you will have to deal directly with the manufacturer.

Good luck hope this helped.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up dealing directly with ATT. Damn, I wonder why this problem is so common? Is the material that cheap? And i'm a guy who takes care of phones... dunno.

Haven't had a Moto since analog (10 yrs) and I'm not too crazy that both my V600 phones had already gone in for service and I hadn't had the phone for even a month.

Whatever!!!!

I have to disagree. The best phone I ever had was my first, and that was the moto timeport 5 years ago. Since then, I had a few other brands, and they all sucked. Back to moto, couldn't be happier. Nothing will beat Verizon reception, but if you're on gsm, you know how bad service can be, and I live in NYC! But of all the gsm phones I've had upto now, the v600 by far has the best reception. Sure it has its small probs here and there, but take into account that 1) it's first year model, and with any product, first year models are buggy, and 2) sure, if you had a basic functioning nokia, you wouldn't have as many probs, but at the sametime, you wouldn't have as many features. For what it's worth, I think this is the best phone out there (with ...

Ok, well service/reception is different from the phone itself. My disagreement is with the quality of the phone. I've had Samsungs, Nokias and Sony Ericssons on launch and never had this problem.

When I first got the moto I thought it was the best out there. Then I had my problems.

Plain and simple, go to the Samsung phone site or Sony Ericsson or Nokia on PhoneScoop.com. See how many pages of forums there are for the Sony T610 or Samsung E715.

The motorola V600 is at page 63??? The bulk of it is problem with Bluetooth, flex software, flash my software, etc etc. It's just crazy.

Oh well to each his own. Good Luck with your exchange.

Service/reception is not different from the phone. Verizon in general has better coverage, and I'm sure most can agree with that. But within the gsm network, there are certain phones that perform better than others. And the v600 is definitely up there.

Yea, I realize this phone is crazy buggy, but 63 pages compared to all the people who have the phone isn't bad. Plus, I perosnally find Samsungs to be too feminine for my tastes. And Nokia/Sony are too boring.

Hey michko,
I have the same issue with mine. My phone all of the sudden has a crack on that silver lining. The number 4 key pad doesn't work that well and I've noticed from time to time. The digital clock on the front cover goes off. Man, you guys were right when I first disagreed with you. This phone has several issues and now that I know that can be fixed. I'm going to send mine in.
thanx all.

Hey Elmoso,

I know. Plan to be without the phone for about 2 weeks from the day they receive it. My phone with the cracked and chipped black bezel was there for 3 weeks.

My other phone has been there for about 2 and is supposedly on its way back to me.

FYI their customer service sucks. I called on different occasions and everyone gave me different answers.

Make sure when you send the phone in that you include all problems you're having. Put it in a list form with 1,2,3, etc.

I asked them to fix the bezel and my #3 button enters double. Well after all that time, they fixed the bezel and not the keypad problem. I was so disgusted.

That's why I'm over the drama with this phone. Good Luck

did you have to exchange the phone thru AT&T or Cing or did you have to send it to Motorola?

I have an unlocked/unbranded phone (no phone carrier lock) and I had to deal with Motorola directly for warranty service. The phone was there for 3 weeks to have that bezel changed. They did a half ass job.

This phone is a joke already........

I have a similiar situation with my 3-week-old v600. The crack is on the front plastic between the silver lining and the "mirror". I think it may be caused by the phone being opened where the front area touches the back.

I called AT&T on Monday afternoon and got a replacement phone via FedEx by noon the next day. In this case, I though the ATT Customer Service is pretty good.

I hope I am not going to have the same problem with my new replacement phone. Based on what I saw from this and other forums, people seem to have problems with the casing -- perhaps the plastic parts are too weak.

I did report my problem to Motorola and hope they can improve the product in the future.

I've had my Cingular v600 for a couple days and can already see some wear and tear in the area you described. Fortunately, my phone has a little "bumper" pad on the plastic piece where the cover of the phone rests when the phone is open. I don't know if this was included on previous (AT$T) versions, but hopefully it will prevent any cracks from forming there.

I also have a little wear and tear there too. Also having the little pad where the phone rests while open on my Cingular branded v600. I hope this little wear and tear does not get worse!
