Guess what! They ALL suck!
AT&T, Verizion, Cingular, Nextel.
They ALL suck. Every one of them has places where reception stinks. Every one of them isn't offered in some area across the country or the other. They all have some clueless customer support individuals answering the phones and they all will try and get as much money out of you as possible.
Pick a provider you dislike the least, stick with them and be happy!
Personally I've been with AT&T, Nextel, T-Mobile and Cingular all when I lived in various parts of the country. I can complain about them all pretty much equally!

AMEN!!! You hear that MD guy? Get over AT&T! This is so true.. I recently used the almighty VERIZON here in Chicago and missed my T-Mobi...
