Current unlocked V600's won't work for long
Purchasing an unlocked v600 is a bad idea if you plan to use it with AT&T. The current V600 simply isn't working on the 850 band which is what AT&T is switching GSM coverage to. That's why AT&T has delayed approval of the phone. Motorola has told AT&T that it thinks a complete rework of the V600 software can fix the problem. Perhaps....

That's a new one, where'd you hear it? I've read about people losing 850Mhz when they flash a V300 T-Mobile FLEX onto their V600's, but not otherwise.

That's all this guy says is that every phone wont work with AT&T because of their switching to 850MHz. The v600 is quadband phone why in the hell would it not work?!

That's what AT&T and Motorola are trying to figure out. The V600 isn't working on AT&T's 850 band but does work on the 1900 band. Motorola simply says they are working on "final software compatable with the AT&T network".

The move by AT&T to 850 has resulted in a number of problems which might be expected with new equipment and one of them is that the V600 isn't working on that band. It can still get coverage on the older 1900 band.

I see. Sounds like you have some insight from either Moto or AT&T if this is truly the case. That's a pretty major bug if it's true... I'm not calling you a liar, it just sounds like such a huge bug that it's hard to imagine they wouldn't have caught it sooner. What other gory details do you have about this problem?

The only public comment Motorola will make is that they are working on "final software compatable with the AT&T network". AT&T says it is completing final testing of the phone on it's network. The phones tested did not have full capability on 850. The unfortunate people who bought -- and paid very high prices -- will find their phones failing as more coverage moves to 850.
AT&T is having problems with the 850 band switch and some of the phones they sold just in the past year do not work on this band. One example: The Sony T68i which AT&T is replacing for free (unfortunately with a really cheap phone).

I am sorry, but now I doubt your story. Here is the reason. The T68i is not an 850 phone it has always been 900/1800/1900. ATTW is giving its customers a chance to change over to a phone that has the 850 and this is available in a few markets. The reason for that is that the 850 is now working in areas like NY and CA and others. My T616 works in area where the T68i does not and that is beacause of the 850 cappability of the T616. In addition, based on my understanding is that the glitches are strictly software related more for the mmode and some BT issues which has been reported on howard forums. I appologize in advance if you think or if it seems like that I am infering something else but I had to say what I said to get the sto...

No offense but I'm questioning your sources. From the people I talk to that have the AWE v600 they don't have this issue. Yes there are software issues, but everything else is working fine. I know 3 people that have and use the branded AWE version of the V600. They all work for AWE and use the phone regularly. Yes the phone is as buggy as the T72x series, but it is working on 850. Also AWE doesn't camp on 850, they use it only when needed for now... Eventually, I would expect them to change that...
