Dispelling myths about the Motorola V600

I've read alot of this board and hopefully I will provide some info and lower the level of confusion about this phone. I am an employee of AT&T Wireless, and I've followed everything about this phone.

First of all, this phone has been manufactured for AT&T Wireless. Not T-Mobile, and not in any recent future for Cingular. Even if Cingular buys AT&T, it will take them at least a year for any major changes. Cingular's version is the V400 and T-Mobile's is the V300. No those phones don't have bluetooth. No those phones dont have interchangable aluminum housings. Big deal. Thats why AT&T's version is the last to be released. (Best for last, you know?)

Secondly, if you go into an AT&T Wireless store and ask to purchase a phone so you can g...

I don't believe you.. Welcome to the days of technology.. I'm willing to bet that this phone can be unlocked and will work on other GSM providers.. Where there is a will, there is a way.. People want this phone and Motorola will lose alot of money if only works with ATT.. Beside, your GSM service isn't that good.. We will see .. I'll leave it at that.

You're right. When there's an idiot, there's a way. I apologize for the name calling, but did you READ my post? I didn't say impossible. I said damn difficult, and expensive. And again, it will not fully work for any other company. Why is Motorola throwing money away? They ONLY missed the Christmas deadline. They've only released somewhat similar models for Cingular and T-Mobile. So how are they throwing money away? If AT&T's GSM service is so poor, why is T-Mobile now and forever being ranked consistantly at the bottom of consumer reports? Enough people don't have Cingular's service in the NorthEast (where 70% on the nations mobile users live) to know what GSM is like. Throw your money away, I really don't care. Its your money and time to w...

"damn difficult?" "expensive?" Is this your idea of "dispelling myths?" I see you haven't done your homework.

As far as Cingular offering V600s,

A quick call to a nearby Cingular shop confirmed this. As with the ATTWS retailers, it's on their list but don't know when they'll have it in.

Folks, the truth is that unlocking the V300/400/5xx/600 is no more expensive than $16 and no more difficult than inserting a new SIM card and hitting a few keys.

By the way, in the page that I linked to about the Cingular V600, the relevant info is a cut-and-pasted email from Motorola. You can find it near the bottom of the page.

He's just a troll . Don't feed in to him. Anyone who thiks Motorola would spend millions of dollars creating and marketing their flagship phone for one US carrier smokes more crack than all the rest of the trolls combined.

Additionally, the reason Cingular is not releasing it at the same time as AT&T is because during earlier testing, there were too many problems - and this came directly from someone in the know. If it is not released by Cingular, it will be due to its problematic nature.

Thanks for showcasing your true lack of intelligence. Cingualr will get it, Cingualr will get it. Wah wah wah. I still haven't seen one person post one peice of credible evidence that says Cingular will get it. Definition of credible: either Cingular.com, or hellomoto.com. Not some bogus email you maybe typed up yourself, or some fan boy website. Not third party garbage. One credible site. Not one of you can. Even phonescoop under the phones description list AT&T only. Stop your pissing and moaning already and see if you can get the phone unlocked. Thats about the only way you will get it.

Whatever you say, "hot guy". Believe what you want. I'll be here when Cingular (and T-Mobile and every other GSM carrier) is selling the phone. Then feel free to thank me for whatever you like. Don't confuse me with the typical user on this board - I'm probably old enough to be your daddy, and have been working in the telecommunications industry since before you were born. All that boring stuff notwithstanding, we'll soon see who's right. I love a challenge.

Oh, and while you're busy pointing out my "true lack of intelligence", it's ironic how easily you demonstrate yours - try the "check spelling" button below when spelling "Cingualr" and "peice". Later, dork.

Wow, I thought we were members of this thread because we all want the same thing, the V600. Has Motorola's delay in the phone really caused us to become experts at who gets the phone and when. For the record I spoke with Mike Seivert (via his blackberry, he is the Chief Marketing Officer for ATTWS) a month ago and he said the phone was slated for release the first week in January. The only people who actually know when we will get this phone is the guys on the shipping dock at Motorola. They will know who will get it and when. Maybe someone should try and contact them and ask them what cities and how many phones.

Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support.

Regarding your concern, we regret to let you know that currently the new Motorola V600 cellular phone will only be launched by AT&T Wireless on the second week of February, 2004.
However, Motorola is planning to release the V600 phone through Cingular Wireless, too. The estimated launching date through Cingular is set for the end of April or beginning of May.

If you need further assistance on this issue, please contact our Customer Care Center at 1-800-331-6456. Our hours of operation are from 8 A.M. to 7 P.M. CST.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be of service to you.

As far as getting it unlocked, that's as simple as taking candy from a baby, and it might possibly cost you nothing.... the v400 is automatically unlocked from CIngular the V300 is locked to T-Mobile, took us about 20 seconds to unlock it, i think the V600 will be about the same......

Also, what i don't understand is why Motorola is coming out with the phone in a Company that has GSM coverage only about the size of Texas?

I am a cingular agent, att agent and a t-mobile agent, so i get the best of all worlds. I also see what coverage areas are growing the fastest with all the updates. Cingulars is by far the fastest growing GSM network right now.

We got word our V600's for ATT will be in Feb 2. However, we were told the 15 of Jan...

It all depends on where you're at. AT&T is concentrating most of their efforts on the northeast, as that is where most of their money is. I know Cingular is a southern company. But between NYC and DC, the GSM network that has the most going for it, is indeed AT&T.

From reports read online and through reps... T-Mobile covers D.C. and NYC the best, i know Cingular uses quite a bit of T-Mobile towers in NYC. Now if ATT has more in that area wouldn't it make more since for Cingular to make an Agreement with them? However, they don't have an agreement with them... maybe that's just me though, sounds like smarter business...

Could you link us to these reports? I hear alot of stuff on these boards, but noone comes forth with any hard evidence, I'd like to believe you, so please link us all if possible.

My concern is that T Mobile gets slammed by any professional review. Especially from the consumer reports. Across the board the only company ranked lower them T Mobile as far as coverage or service quality, is Sprint PCS. While everyone knows they suck, another factor that points to lack of coverage is their overall customer base. T Mobile is last place among the 6 major carriers.

As many complaints as there are about Cingular or AT&T they both have a great deal more as far as a subscriber base. Which leads to more coverage, and of course more opinions. So ma...
