Hitachi G1000

I bought this phone from ebay, and I wasn't able to activate it over the phone since the person said there was some kind of software upgade and I would need to take it to a sprint store. I took it to a Sprint store, and the guy said they don't so software upgrades and that I would have to get that from Hitachi. The guy then told me candidly that nobody really has too much luck with that phone, and the store has only been able to get about 2 of them to work correctly.
