I love this phone but the battery life sucks. I stopped gettin online and I turned of a lot of stuff thinkin it wud help but the battery still dies after the phone has been on for roughly 4.5 hrs. my LG dare wasn't a smart phone but I could browse the web anytime I wanted and make phone calls and still get at least 7 hrs worth of battery life. how can I improve battery life on this phone other than simply not turning it on at all b4 I get home near my charger?

I easily get a full day out of mine. If I had better reception in my apartment, I could probably comfortably get two days of usage per charge. I'd recommend three things...

First off, make sure that you only enable wireless modes that you're using at any given time. The easiest way of doing this is to add widgets for each of the wireless settings that you'll use, thus allowing you to easily enable/disable them with a single press.

For example, you should only enable Bluetooth if you're using a Bluetooth device. Only enable GPS if you're using location-aware apps and services. Only enable Wi-Fi if you're near a usable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Secondly, use a task manager. I recommend Advanced Task Killer. Just use it to kill off any app that y...

I agree with most everything you said, with the exception of the task killer. If you have an app that does not shut down properly by way of using the back soft key or thru a menu option in the app itself, I can see the need to "kill" the task. But 2.1 for the eris comes with menu option under application>running services to kill those apps natively. But in using a task killer and killing all those apps in the backgroud (footprints, messages, etc..) you are fighting a losing battle. First you have to use resources to open the task killer, then you kill those apps, then android starts them up again, and the cycle continues. You use more resources killing the task than you would've if you just left them alone. BTW those background apps aren't...

I'm reasonably certain that you could kill tasks by going into Settings on 1.5, as well. Thing is, it's not efficient. Killing tasks takes far less effort and time with ATK. I disagree as far as people claiming that background tasks are having absolutely no effect on performance. My Eris is noticeably sluggish if I don't kill processes after restarting.

Now, there are some apps that I truly consider to be pointless. For instance, uninstaller apps aren't necessary, because you can access every one of your installed apps from Android Market, making a dedicated app for uninstalling apps a pretty worthless download.

The other day i turned of my mobile internet while i was home and used wifi
[since we have it]
and my battery lasted maybe 6 hrs+
rather than the 4 hrs i was getting b4.

People who recommend not using task managers are generally referring to task managers that automatically kill processes. While ATK allows you to set up auto-kills, I never use it. Really, it's no more harmful than using Task Manager in Windows.

Oh, also, you may want to change the way that you access certain aspects of Web sites. For instance, just because you can access the full version of CNN.com on the Eris doesn't mean that you should. Use the mobile version. Furthermore, try using RSS feeds to access news or posts from sites that support them, rather than browsing the sites, themselves.

Yeah, I've had a big problem with the battery life. Im a heavy user of the phone and the battery lasts mabey 2.5 hrs. It's extreemly fustrating. Now I mainly use the phone for web. Checking the RSS sites etc. Yahoo Messenger, and checking the time. Now I know this use should not drain the battery that quickly. I did download an app JuiceDefender. So far its been like 4 days and It has increased the batter life by about .5hrs. Not too much of a gain. Has anyone heard of an aftermarket battery that is avail?
