The vibration on this phone is horrible. by far the worst of any phone I've owned. For text msgs, I believe handscent has an option to change the vibrate pattern. I'm not sure if any of the dialer apps (dialer one for example) allow you to set vibrate patterns or not, but without root there is no way to make any of them the default dialer. I haven't messed with any of the email programs (touchdown,k9, etc..) so I can't speak to those.
