battery life

I love this phone but the battery life sucks. I stopped gettin online and I turned of a lot of stuff thinkin it wud help but the battery still dies after the phone has been on for roughly 4.5 hrs. my LG dare wasn't a smart phone but I could browse the web anytime I wanted and make phone calls and still get at least 7 hrs worth of battery life. how can I improve battery life on this phone other than simply not turning it on at all b4 I get home near my charger?
