Aldiko - Read books (most of which are free) on your phone.
OI File Manager - Browse and manage files on your phone and memory card.
Pandora - Listen to music. Suggests music based on your tastes.
Shazam - Identify songs by holding your phone up to a music source.
Tapatalk - View supported forums as you would a menu on your phone.

Which ones do you recommend for customizing the phone?

Depends on what you're trying to customize. If you're not a fan of the built-in messaging app on the Eris, then I recommend chompSMS. I'm honestly not a fan of widgets, and most of the apps that were pre-installed on the phone are among the best that you can get, in my opinion. As such, the only customization that I've felt the need to do is maybe changing the wallpaper and organizing my home screens.

If you'd like some advice on apps, though, then let me know what you'd like to customize in particular on your phone. I'll try to make recommendations, as I don't mind trying new apps.

Well I like customizing partically everything I possibly can. But I think it would be best to get the phone first and then ask, cuz that would make more sense. I think I'm getting too excited, I know my LG enV touch has different fonts, but I would like more. Are there any apps for font?

Yes, you can download font packs, although you can only change the fonts if a specific app supports it. Interestingly, some apps that support other fonts will detect font packs embedded within other apps.

It's possible to save photos in the default messaging app, as well, but it's nice to hear that you like chompSMS.

It's just a highly customizable messaging app. You can have your conversations appear in conversation bubbles, as well as in the more standard fashions. You can change virtually every aspect the color scheme, even using images on your phone within the theme, which is certainly a nice touch, as well.

Yes, it's free, and you don't need to download anything extra for it (although I suppose that you could download extra font packs, if you wanted to). The app is very customizable. I've noticed that a lot of people prefer Handcent to chompSMS, but I thought that chompSMS was the better-looking of the two. Handcent is definitely more customizable, but more so on the back end of things.

Can't believe no one has mentioned ringdroid. Takes clips of your mp3s and allows you to set as notifications or ringtones. Every ringtone I use, I've made with this program. Very user friendly as well. If you like customization, you might like some of the lock screen apps. Lockbot and Lock 2.0 are the main ones. I used Lock 2.0. I absolutely hated the stock music player, so I am currently using meridian noble, but I'm not super excited about it either. new program called gesture search is cool. allows you to search music, bookmarks, contacts, and apps by gesture (may only be available if you've dl the 2.1 leak), Urbanspoon is cool for finding random places to eat, newsrob for google readers or rss feeds, and Opera mini 5 beta is blazing fas...
