Is battery a deal-killer?
The Verizon website has 448 owner/user reviews of the Eris Droid, and practically every single reviewer, whether the user likes, loves or hates this phone (90% love it), comments on the terrible battery life. Some users say it has to be charged at least once or twice daily with normal voice use and limited WiFi use.
What say you folks who have owned and used this phone daily for the past few weeks? Is there any chance HTC is working on some sort of a fix for this issue?
I'm sitting on the fence for now, but would appreciate your insight!

Supposedly some of the OTA updates they will be pushing out in the next few months are going to address some of the issues draining the battery. I for one hope they make an extended battery. I don't think its a deal breaker. I'm personally never very far away from my computer (phone charges through USB) so to me its not a deal breaker. I can't put this phone down so I have to charge it everyday. I'm sure once the new wheres off I will be getting solid battery performance.

If you download advanced app killer (free from Google Market) it really helps with the battery issue. I use it about five times a day to kill any apps I'm no longer using. Since I downloaded it several weeks ago I've noticed a great improvement in my battery life. I also recommend only turning on wi-fi if it is absolutely necessary--this is a huge drain on the eris's power.

Taskiller is good for that too, It puts a cool widget on your home screen that kills all apps with a single touch.

If you watch what apps you are using and figure out which are causing problems, you can avoid dangerous apps like task killers. With moderate use of my Eris I get at least 2 days of battery life and I have no app killers installed.
I found some IM apps prevent the device from sleeping even when it's just in the background. If it can't sleep, it can't go into low power states. 100% awake time means you only get, at most, 18 to 20 hours of battery time, even with very light usage, and maybe 8 to 10 hours of battery time with moderate usage.

I, too, am curious as to why they're so dangerous. They just make a task that you can already do on the device a lot quicker. 🙄

I was really referring to the automatic task killers. I've seen a lot of reports along the lines of "I installed and now my alerts don't work" or something else stops working correctly that's part of the core system. You're breaking design by using these tools.

I FULLY AGREE WITH Nimdae... most of these auto-task killers i have looked at on the marked say exactly what Nimdae stated. if you dont see these comments on the first 3 posted then hit read all comments and you will see where Nimdae is comming from... i have yet to try one of these apps due to the comments and things ive read on here about them.. dont wanna ruin my new toy 😁

I use "Advance Task Killer Free" and it works great, extends my battery 2x on my Eris, and doesn't limit any programs at all. 😁
Original battery went from 2hrs of continuous use (with background tasks running) to 4+hrs continuous use (with task killer). 😎

yeah but were talking about a 3500 mAh... why would you want an 1100 when thats lower than what the phone comes with? plus the 1500 is only 200 mAh higher than what it comes with... so it would give you what... an extra half hour of life? splurge a bit. dont be so cheap. 😈

This is because it is correcting the bad behavior of some app that you installed. It's better to just not use the app.

I get at least a day out of it when I'm using navigation heavily (Waze is a nice navigation app, btw). I get no less than 8 hours of use on really heavy usage (navigation, music, calls, etc). This is significantly more than your rated 4 hours WITH an automatic task killer, meaning while it's correcting some bad behavior, it's not correcting all of it.
As I said before, it's better to figure out what apps are behaving badly and rate them badly then remove them in order to discourage this kind of beh...

ok damit all this argueing made me get on the market and try the ADVANCED TASK KILLER FREE.......have got to say.....works dam well. usually by 1 pm with average internet use and texing and things im usually at 50 percent life according to viz batter...using the task killer put me at 89 percent...usually i have to charge it arround 5 pm when i get off of work... now i dont even have to charge it till about 1 to 3 pm the following day...."AVERAGE INTERNET USAGE" am quite suprised 😲 😲 😲 😲 😲 😲 😲 😲

I understand you need to watch what apps you use and stuff like tyat but there was. alot of apps that i didnt know ran in the backround like your messages and stuff like that...even if your network is shut off Andy just got off the browser it is still runnng in the backround...I didn't know alot of apps that did that till I actually tried it and it shows wich ones do.... 🤨 ... 😎 😎

I love the phone. The battery is NOT a deal killer. In the beginning it drains fast because you're ON IT playing all of the time! Once you go back to the rest of your life, the battery needs to be charged every night. Big deal. So did my blackberry.
