RIM must change the foot print of their designs. Android is running away with the 4.3" screens and landscape sliders. Screen size and resolution are a major attraction and the postage stamp hard qwerty BBs seem to have lost appeal. When they do react to LTE, dual-core processing, front facing cameras, and all the features other suppliers have already embraced, they will have answered the bell. QNX is off the map for RIM until the PlayBook introduces the OS that would put them back into the game.

The "refreshes" they leak are nothing more than a "bowl of steam," so to speak. They change the case colors on the Bold-type standard and look for reaction. That's not the answer. Perhaps RIM will monitor the success of the 4 Android LTE handsets...

Agreed! I'm limping along with a bruised and battered Storm, hoping by some miracle that RIM will announce a worthy successor by the time I get to upgrade.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. The Mrs got a Droid X two months ago. It's frickin' amazing. The touch screen is smooth and easy to work; the screen quality is amazing; and the size of the thing is crazy big for viewing, but not too big to carry. Plus, it looks like the user could access corp email as well. I didn't put it down for the first two weeks, now she won't let me touch it.

As loyal as I've been to RIM, I don't know if I can hold on for the next gen. I'd rather try my luck with an Android phone instead of getting locked in for two years with a machine...

Its very frustrating. I've been with this device since day 1, have DL close to 100 apps, built a loyalty to the BB Community, and do know what the right thing to do is. As VZW has directed its priority away from RIM, by embracing Android & IPhone, the logical thing to do would be to follow suit. But we do not always do the logical thing (look at the Government).....why?

We know our device and that familiarity is comfortable. I have 83 3rd party apps, 6 folders, 30 launcher fields and 140 icons to navigate. Don't have the incentive to start from square 1 with a non-LTE handset at this time.

My 9550 is still glitch-ridden on a daily basis, but I'm imune to it by now and just deal with the re-boots.

RIM needs some courses in marke...

I think RIM knows and understands it's problems with US market share. If you look at the bigger picture on a global scale they are doing nothing but growing at a crazy pace!

Nokia has this issue by the way. They are pretty much unheard of in the US but they sell more phones than anyone in the world.

There is something in their lineup i'll pickup this year.

For me looking at RIMs situation they started out as a business tool and then the smartphone explosion hit. Of course iphones and Android devices are going to appeal more to the masses. They were built for that.

RIM may just settle into that area again. For me...

No your not. I, too, find email notification critical. Phone calls are, of course, tantamount in importance. RIM has historically, placed viewing features in a back burner position of priority. If you consider the design, most of their devices place a full qwerty occupying half the handset. So screen real estate has never been the appeal with BB.

I find the hard qwerty portrait design to be annoying for large fingers. And the intent is that users will be typing most of the time. It does not compare to a landscape slider qwerty, both in ease of use and reliability.

The Monaco Touch in your link is impressive. They've finally addressed screen resolution. If it were not for the upcoming 4G network, I feel the Monaco would be an ea...

phew! I am not dying 🤣

Your right, the qwerty portrait design is annoying for larger fingers. I love that option to turn it to landscape!

Regarding LTE and 4G phones in general. The ones that are out I am told can suck the life of a battery in nothing flat. I am sure thats an exaggeration but you get the point.
I believe many of these phones are having to keep 3G and 4G radios powered up all the time so they can go between them easily. Apple is typically conservative on this issue to and I am interested to see if the iphone 5 has 4G or not. They may wait another year. They did with 3G originally.

So I know RIM will be into 4G but I doubt they will be amung the first I guess 😢

I think QNX needs dual core processors t...

Hey, we go back along way. The time line is a mirror! Equal opportunity sufferers! Remember the original Storm and the months of waiting for an update to make the handset useful only as a paperweight? 😁

The splenda wrappers in the battery port to make the Un-sure Press....Press?

Dinosaur days and we're still surviving with the Storm. Now that's dedication!

A day doesn't go by that my Drip, I mean Storm doesn't amaze me with a new glitch of some kind. As soon as I say it works great....Lock.... Crash...some new Government-sponsored calamity (partly kidding)....never fails. I'm really the Stormsufferer!

Ultimately, RIM will get on the LTE bandwagon. I'd love it to be with a BB touch device (I am a BB loyalist), but it will no...

Gotta love it! Equal opportunity sufferers 🤣 Yea, it's been a Stormy ride! I guess sure press is looking like it's history so no more splenda wrappers or in my case trying two hardware stores to find an appropriate torx screwdrver to turn that screw a whole 1/4 turn 🤣

So at this point the Monaco is looking good to fit the bill for another year. Looking forward to that Magnetometer whizbang to help me find my way home. With double the processor speed and triple the memory for the OS what can go wrong?

oh, and 10 bucks says the Storm name is history. I mean they had to retire names like the Edsel and Pinto for various reasons right? Is it time for this storm to be over?

from a loyal BB Storm owner 😁

Maybe they'll really come out with a Storm. I won't take your bet. If anything, the 9550 will be re-named the Pollen Dust 😁

It can, It can, and it does..... work like a smartphone with a 2 digit IQ! I always suspected the head designer at RIM was a disgruntled Canadian fisherman who got bit by a salmon in Nova Scotia and suffered from mercury poisoning..... 🤤

To me it looks like RIm took it's inspiration from a portable hotplate...something you might cook food off of while camping 🤣

The hot plate is a good comparison. Actually, performance can best be compared to a spoon or crock pot (more stable & dependable),and both require less fixes. I was thinking of putting my handset through a dishwasher cycle. Might wash all those software exception pointers that reside in the mushware! 😁

Okay so there's three of us left for the Storm. Now the question becomes do I re-up in Sept when I can upgrade? Or do I hold out for 4G and QNX?

At least the Playbook is getting good reviews, since my next purchase will probably be for two devices, the handset and the tablet.

I just don't know if my S2 has enough life left for another 12 mos.

Three of us left? Now I'm sure there's more victims out there! I have two upgrades available right now and I will not exercise them for an "interim device." Your September time-line should provide you with several options.

RIM is incredibly slow in reacting to market trends. It appears as if they are delaying introduction for 4G handsets until the service has generated enough markets to perform efficiently in. If you can live with the lack of stability inherent in the 9550 hardware design, I would recommend for you to wait. Especially, if your loyalty is directed to BB. You will not see QNX anytime soon. The Play Book will require a tether connection for 3 or 4G and no pushed Email to the device. Tethering is an annoyance. Just ask...
