I read the post that you mentioned. I believe the virtues of the OS now under development are not fully compatible with the format being tested by RIM at this time for the Storm2. The new 6.0 OS appears to be more consistent with a hard-qwerty device design. The nature of those phones are obviously directed to the feature-laden social networking which dominates the 6.0 OS.

Lack of memory was a major issue in the original Storm. I opened with under 35Mbs, and the phone, lagged, did not respond, and due to the burden and lack of RAM, performed terribly.

RIM will upgrade to a new OS for the Storm2. It will, however, be designed with a specific considerations, accounting for the limitations and nature of the device. As for a light version, look for the emphasis to be focused on the touch screen only device. Don't be surprise if the upgrade appears 2 days prior to the release of the Storm3 which will have the identical OS. They did it last year, watch for a repeat performance....
