how do you turn off "start up" and "turn off" noise?
This phone, like many others plays an obnoxious song when you turn it on and off. Is there a s00per seekrit way to make that stop?

This is actually mentioned in the manual, but unfortunately the manual is poorly written.
Page 58 in the manual discusses this. it is called "ON/OFF TONES" in the "ALERTS" menu under the "SOUNDS" menu.
But here is how to do it anyways:
Press these buttons in this order:
Menu

Select “On” or “Off” using the navigation key
and press [OK] to save it.
