I'm due for a phone upgrade in Oct. and was gonna get the pre, but now i'm gonna get the hero. Not a big fan of virtual keyboards, but i'm gonna give it a shot. I got 30 days to return the phone, don't I?

Double check with your sprint store, and read the small print. You should have 30 days.

I'm updating to the hero instead of the pre for a few reasons.

First, I've heard of build quality issues with the pre.

Second, the app catalog is better on android. Third, this is HTC's third or fourth android phone, I never get first generation products (even though this is first gen Sense UI, its great).

Fourth, the keyboard is too small on the pre, i need landscape keyboards.

The only thing that I hesitate on is the processor, its a little slow in the hero. But fast as hell in the pre, which causes terrible battery life.

Well I am a current owner of the Pre and the battery is not the only problem but yes the apps are far and few between, but if you text and I do, not like most... The phone has no text forwarding 😕.. Yes with sprint you have 30 days to return because I am and checking out this phone.. 😁

Depends. If you are into gadgets and understand tech, there is no better phone available then the pre. Go over to precentral.net, check out how to use webosquickinstall. If you feel conforatable hacking into the phone (which, by the way, Palm encourages), you will have the best phone on the market with over 300 USEFUL apps and all the features people don't know about (text forwarding, etc) The phone's basic code incorporates all this, but for some reason, palm 'commented out' these data lines in the program. The hacks are just erasing these 'comment out' programming lines.

If, however, you don't like to hack, and would rather live with the phone out of the box and only deal with official app stores and official updates (ala iphone pr...

Have You activated a Palm Pre? Right in the terms of service agreement, when you first turn the hone on, it asks you and makes you agree to not alter the phone in anyway before you continue. So you are telling me that Palm has agreed and given you the go ahead to break their own rules?

Check it out.. Palm developers "just hack on it"!!

Also, Palm has purposefully created webOSdoctor (see their corportate website under support) to resolve any "bricking" of the phone by hacking and resetting to previous condition.

The agreement you talk about above, yes, it exists, likely to protect Sprint. Like I said, only if you know what you are doing, not for the novice.

Have been a pre user for a couple of weeks and love it! The keyboard isn't and issue since I came from the smaller centro keyboard. I need a physical keyboard. I tried the hero tonight and liked it in landscape, but typing events in only works in portrait mode. It was way cramped...just made too many mistakes. I thought about the hero before I bought my pre but after messing with the keyboard I think I'll stick with the pre.

Currently have a Pre with technical problems and have never been able to synch with my Mac. Need to switch phones. Have a phone/contact list over 2,000 names. Will Hero synch with Mac and be able to handle large number of contacts?

After having the Pre for a few weeks and now having the Hero, I hope I can offer you some insight. When I first got the Pre, I loved it. It is very easy to use right out of the box and the multi-tasking was great. Additionally, I also liked the physical keyboard. However, the phone was cheap. I went through 3 of them before finally swapping for the Hero. My main issue with the Pre was the screen. All 3 had a yellowish blob on the lower left of the screen and numerous dead pixels.

The Hero is a different story. It feels like it is built like a tank. However, the downside is it takes a little more time to get the hang of, and the lack of a physical keyboard. However, the onscreen keyboard does have feedback, and works better than I expecte...
