This ships with Andy 1.5... is the Doughnut gonna be auto updated when it drops, can I d/l the update from the unit itself, or do i have to interface it with my home computer?

Anyone know how easy/complicated the Android interface is as far as sync-ing with a desktop?

@jdace09

Do you have a source that verifies this, links?

I'm seeing many reviews that have 1.5 and not 1.6. I am also hearing that it must ship 1.6 since its CDMA.

Ha! I missed that. I foresee three scenarios in regards to 1.6.

1) HTC will install 1.6 from the get go. OCT 11

2) HTC will offer an upgrade to 1.6 later in October or early November. It will require you to wipe your phone. Individuals must update.

3) You wont see it on the HTC Hero.

I'm leaning it will be #2.

It will definitely ship with 1.5. We'd played with it and confirmed this, and I have it on the record from both HTC and Sprint that that is how it'll ship.

1.6 was JUST finalized by Google and released (including to companies like HTC.) HTC will need more time to create a version of 1.6 tailored for the Sprint Hero.

They will offer a 1.6 update for it. Although they have not publicly committed to it, HTC has told me it is "likely", which to me means they're working on a 1.6 update and plan to offer it, barring any unforeseen glitches, etc.

As for the whole thing about "but CDMA wasn't supported until 1.6": Yes, 1.6 adds native support for CDMA right into the standard build from Google. However, manufacturers have always been free to...

Thanks for the update. This makes sense, I look forward to the upgrade when it comes. I did some research on backup apps if HTC requires the phone to be wiped when 1.6 is released. Sprite backup looks good, backs up alot of information and looks simple to set up.

The HTC Hero for Sprint is the first Android handset to run OS 1.6. Reviews of the Hero have mainly been positive, but there’s a consensus that it is somewhat sluggish.

So what, every time Android upgrades its OS, were gonna have to rely on HTC to do its thing with Sense before we can enjoy the next version?... And Sense makes Android OS sluggish? Isn't Android going to drop 1.7 soon?

Seems like including a proprietary element like Sense defeats the purpose of Android...unless HTC offers free Sense upgrades as fast as Android evolves.
