Droid power cycle

Like a ton of others... I was at my local Verizon store this morning at 8am. I bought my droid and was eager to get it home and play with it but could not leave the store for another 2 hours!!! 3 different Droids and 2 hrs later I finally left the store with a Droid in hand. The Verizon rep went through the initial startup with the first Droid and it would power cycle on and off about once every 4-5 minutes. He DOA'd that phone and got another one from the back. This phone gave the same results. The third phone he got from the back is the one I currently have next to me. It did not power cycle at that silly rate but it has done it about 7 times total today in about 9 hrs. And I was not alone with this problem. Both the person to my r...

From the Droids that I have sold today not one of them has had that issue. As far as I know none of them has done this yet.

I'll post any feedback I get from other customers but so far nothing has happened like that that I have seen.

I bought the droid today but didn't experience the problem you had. I am having issues syncing my work email and my phone did freeze on me once and I had to pull the battery.

Yeah please advise if you see this problem because I am truly puzzled... and worried that my phone will continue to power on and off on it's own.

Sounds like your mobile area. Perhaps something screwy with your network in that area that the Droid doesn't agree well with.

I did have the same issue with the first one i received. it power cycled twice before i got to my car. when i took it back in to show the rep, it did it again. they swapped it out and the second one had no issues. its just like any other phone that debuts. theyre gonna have out of box defects. hopefully some software updates will fix the issues.

On a side note... I LOVE the phone. I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea that I'm putting the phone down. Actually quite the opposite. I really WANT this thing to work right because I think it's really something special. And the problems that I read in other reviews just dont seem to be problems to me. Almost everyone seemed to HATE the physical keyboard and the camera. I actually couldn't disagree more about the keyboard. I think it is a very good size and works quite well. And the camera is good enough for me (for a phone). If I want to enter photos in a contest or something I'll use my Nikon.

Day 2 and once again my phone wont turn on. This time I pulled the battery and it still wont turn on (a problem I experience with the iPhone as well). I'm not sure what to do, I may have a dead Droid.

Two other complaints is the charging cord is ridiculously short and it's quite annoying that my phone wont fit in the charging cradle without me removing the hard case, which isn't easy.

I really want this phone to work well, but I will not settle for a somma-tha-time phone. If I have to go back to ol' sure-n-reliable (Blackberry Curve) I will.

BTW - I ordered the windshield mounting kit so I can use the gps feature. Can't wait to receive it.

I am having my droid lock up when it sits for an hour or so. I also have had it lock up when I click on the camera app and also the map app. It also locked up when I paired it with my bluetooth in the car. I have to take the battery out and then restart....sometimes that does not even work. 24 hours and have had less than 2 hours of actual working time.

Obviously we got the Droid yesterday, and I sold one (I know, only one...We're located in a very small town haha). Nothing of that sort happened, and activation went flawless. I also havent heard anything like this untill now. Weird. Well if your having problems with the phone like that, dont wait. You have a 1-year manufacture warranty for these purposes!

Day Two Update:

I continued to use my phone on and off last night and it power cycled on me 3-4 more times (and once during a call). It has done it again today once already and it has only been off the charger for an hour. Called my local Verizon store and they seem to think it might be a problem with my phone trying to pick up signal from a tower? They think it's an issue that has to be resolved with a tech person over the phone via a "trouble ticket". Is this for real or is this just there way of getting me to take my problem elsewhere and out of their store???

Go swap out the phone, that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Mine hasn't cycled once, searching for signal would never, ever, make the phone power cycle. I can't believe some idiot told you that - shameful...

Update... I went to the Verizon store today and this is what happened. The manager told me they were going to call a technician to get a trouble ticket started. She was not going to change out the phone however. She called the technician and got a trouble ticket started but HE told her that she would have to change out the phone for a new one again so that HE could get the phone activated properly. She told me that he had to completely wipe everything off of my account, activate the account, and then put everything back on to make sure that nothing in my account was causing any sort of problem on activation. So far... no problems. I've had the phone in my hand for about 4 hours now and it hasn't power cycled once. I'm really hoping ...

Ok time for another update.... UNFORTUNATELY about 10 min. after saying my new phone hasn't done it since I got it 4 hrs ago... IT JUST POWER CYCLED. Completely on its own, just sitting there next to me. Out of nowhere. Very disappointed.

The store you are doing this at may have had a bad batch of phones. Any mass produced item is subject to manufacturing errors. Since most of the time all the phones in a shipment a store gets are from the same batch, if something went wrong with the whole batch the whole shipment might be bad.

The RAZR used to have problems like this, where like half the phones in a shipment were bad while other shipments didnt have a bad one.
