Pre - Hero - Moment?

gmanesq

Any suggestions on these three phones? I am concerned with the processor on the Hero and the 16 bit screen. The pre has battery life issues and only 8 gb of memory in it and the Samsung Moment may be bulky. Are there widgets like the Hero and is it customizable?

Do all these phones have real HTML internet? Or are they mobile websites?

I want full browsing capability. Also, anyone know how the calling sound quality is on any of these phones?

Any suggestions would help...thanks

I have a Pre and am amazingly satisfied. I've pretty much had every Smartphone that is currently available through AT&T and Sprint and the Pre stands out. In many ways, I think it is what the iPhone should be. There are definitely things that the iPhone does better, but the Pre continues to amaze. The Hero is woefully under powered. It feels good in the hand, and is very thin, but laggy. Maybe that will be fixed by firmware, maybe not. Also, no QWERTY keyboard kills it for me. One of my biggest gripe with the iPhone was the onscreen kb. I will be testing the Moment and hoping for something that makes me want to get rid of my Pre, but I highly doubt it.

Wait for the Moment to come out, read reviews online, theyll probably even do Hero vs. Moment reviews.

but i wouldnt get the Pre, webOS is awesome but the build quality sucks. Wait until Palm releases their high quality second gen or third gen phone for WebOS... not the Pixi. If they fix hardware issues and get it right the second time around. Theyll dominate... after Android. and maybe the iPhone

but for right now, Hero or Moment is your best bet.

I agree, I did play with a Hero today at a Sprint Corp. store, it was nice, even they suggest wait the month to see what the Moment is like. SenseUI is very nice, but the spec's on the Moment are very good.

Theres so much more app support for Android I wouldn't even bother with Palm to be honest. Android is definately up and coming. Palm will be left in the dust.

I've read that Palm just released a SDK and more apps should be arriving. THe Palm was so much smoother than the Hero. Hero looks nice, but the processor was sluggish. Web pages rendered much quicker on the Pre and the Pre was much much smoother. I need to see the Moment to see how that is compared to the Pre. As of right now, I thought the Pre was a better phone than the Hero. Hero needs to be smoother. It ook a while just for the heyboard to tunr when you turn the phone on its side.

Preware. that's all you need for your pre. It has so many patches, hacks, themes, and apps, it's incredible. And andriod has had a year for app development, palms only had a few months. Remember how many apps there were for palm os? The dev team has 3-4 new apps out per DAY.

Both the Hero and the Moment are Android phones.

All Android phones have a full web browser based on WebKit (just like the iPhone.) The Pre also has a WebKit-based full web browser.

All Android phones also have customizable home screens with widgets. The Hero comes with quite a few extra HTC-designed widgets out of the box, but they both support the same widget system and all third-party (downloadable) Android widgets.

Which OS is better? Android or Palm? I was not a fan of the sluggish ways of the Hero, but am hoping the Moment will be more fluid with the superior processor.

Palm Pre was smooth...hoping Moment will be better than Hero regarding smoothness.

Any thoughts?

The Hero is faster with newer software builds (they have been updating it right up until almost release day.) HTC claims it will get much faster with a forthcoming update, as well.

Each OS has its strengths. There are things I really like about both, and I certainly wouldn't tell anyone to "stay away" from either one.

I will say that Android has a lot more global momentum behind it right now, especially in the developer community, which translates to more apps available, and many more coming. I'm sure webOS will add more apps in the coming months compared to now, and will have apps to cover most things, but if a large catalog of available third-party software is important to you, Android definitely has the upper hand over webOS, and pr...

thanks. What about fluid use. I want to sync work and personal e-mails with the phone. I also want to use as a browser when needed and be able to text. Being able to bounce back and forth in a fluid manner is important.

The apps are cool, but i am also concerned that the phone is not sluggish.

I tried the Pre when it first came out and I loved the phone except for the side sliding keyboard and qwerty is just not meant for lots of typing at all. As you know the battery sux. There is an after market 2600 Seidio battery you can buy to get around the low battery life. Its about $60 but will double your battery life. I have the Hero now. Its good with the android and the syncing of everything facebook, twitter, etc. Love the Pandora. No side slider keyboard again. Battery Life is lot better than Pre. I am thinking abt looking at the Moment when I comes out. I think it comes out on Nov 1st and I will be within my 30 days. I cant live without the keyboard that's from having the Mogul for 2 yrs and Touch Pro as Moguls replacement for 1 1/...

helps quite a bit thanks...

i am just wondering if the Pre will get support from people and grow. I know Android has a huge following and is growing. I am concerned that the pre will never get the apps and will die down.

also wondering how smooth the android os is compared to web os...i played with the hero at a sprint store and it was a bit sluggish...the pre seemed more streamlined.

There is no doubt in my that Android is here to stay and there are so many phone makers jumping on the band wagon that the app store will just go bzerk. I am not saying the Palm is not good they are or can be like apple that they have a loyal customer base that only buys Palm. I think they are making a mistake by shuting themselves out of the WinMO and Android markets. I think they should be like Samsung and HTC and make phones for WinMO and Palm OS and Android. That is the only way for them to sell 2-3 Million sets instead of 864K they reported a couple of months ago. I would stick with Android because of the potential of the things to come and flexibility of the platform

I've had the Hero for this entire week and here are my impressions.

-Hardware feels much more solid than the Pre.

-To fix sluggsihness, I have a task manager that auto-kills apps in 5,10 or 15 min to free up space.

-Also, enable "Animation" in the display settings. Makes the transition looks smoother and thus look less sluggish.

-I was worried about the 16bit screen, but I don't notice the difference. Look up jkontherun.com, he spent some time with it and the pre. He is a Pre owner and is thinking about the Hero.

-The keyboard is usable(8.5 of 10), not as good as the iphone(9.0 of 10), but landscape works very well. I couldn't use the Pre's keyboard, way to small for my big hands.

- My daily use the Hero consists of runnin...

This is the same exact problem I am having. I love WebOS but really don't think the pre is a well built phone. The hero is so nice, but the Moment is supposed to have almost twice the processing power and a keyboard (and I hate when typing on a screen keyboard and it takes up half the screen (I was testing the hero and had to remember the confirmation code instead of reading it while typing ☹️))

So I am stuck waiting til Nov and if the Moment gets good review scores and its only issue being that it doesn't have the HTC SenseUI (which I could care less for except I like the clock weather showing but thats about it) I will be with the Moment until Palm brings out a decent slider phone or at least decent keyboard on a webos phone (not the...

Marty,
You waited this long, whats another 10 days to get a superior phone, and not have to deal with a return on the Hero or Pre? If I had Sprint, and the reviews are good, I'd get this phone in a New York minute.

I just wonder how well this phone stacks up against the VZW Motorola Sholes which will ship (supposingly) with Android 2.0? Even though in the future the Moment will be able to upgrade to it.

I hear you, except for the part about caring about Verizon phones 🤣 I tried Verizon for the 30 day period and even though better reception, couldn't stand how restricted and expensive they were...

So yeah really just waiting for the reviews like you said, and delt with returns a year ago and trying to avoid that again, Just hope the stores get them in on the 1st, especially would be nice if Best Buy did 😁

I don't have a Hero but I have a Moment and my wife has the Pre.
1 The Pre's WebOS is a better OS than Android. It is smooth and the card interface is very nice. Android 1.5 is just a little clunky to me comparied with the Pre or my iPod Touch.
2. So far the Moments battery life isn't thrilling but I just got it.
3. The Moment does have widgets The Pre dosn't.

I have to say I am not as thrilled with the keyboard as I thought. I really like the onscreen keyboard but if you love keyboards then the Moment has a nice one.
The Pre's pluses are it's OS , fast CPU it is a Cortex A8 which is faster than the CPU in the Moment or the Hero, and keyboard if you really want a portrait keyboard.
The downside to the pre is simply apps. The SDK real...
