Samsung Moment Lags and is slow

I recently bought a Samsung Moment. To be honest I am not very pleased with the Android OS. It seems to lag and its rather slow. I am not sure if its because of the amount of apps I have downloaded on my phone from market place or what the problem may be. I know that Anroid 2.2 is coming out, do you know how I can get that updated on my phone?
