Trackball issues explained
I spoke with a salesperson yesterday at a local VZW store about the Tour and its issues. The man told me that the trackball issues have been caused by a software issue rather than a physical problem. He explained this is being rectified and should be done soon. Does this sound legitimate?

Absolutely.... for a salesman who doesn't want to go through the hassle of an exchange.

Ah, but there's the catch. I was simply asking him some questions about the Tour as I told him I would be due for a new phone in October. So I was not buying or returning anything, therefore he was not trying to avoid any work. Seriously, does anyone know whether this could be a true remedy for the trackball issue? It just seeme it could be legitimate as I dob't remember seeing any trackball issues with other Blackberries.

A friend of mine works for RIM and he confirmed that the problems with the trackball are indeed software related.

hrmles1, thank you for your reply. That is what I was looking for, someone who could respond to either confirm or deny the truth behind this information. It made sense to me when the slaesman told me this. Hopefully by October 9 all will be worked out and I can get myself into a beautifully functioning Tour. Thanks again.

Both Sprint and VZW have come stating that the trackball issues have been fixed. If you google Tour Trackball issues you will come across the article. I think I found it on Phonearena.com but I went through 3 tours in Like 30days just got frustrated. Plus RIM releases the 9700 with a trackpad I just feel like when RIM releases a new phone it is more like a tech demo and the real release is a year away i.e Storm or the Tour 9630.
