Storm User Who Needs a NEW Phone (Question re: push email)

SO I am a fed up BB Storm user and I am checking into new phones. I am debating btw the HTC, the storm 2 and the palm pre.

Some things I know: The Pres battery life is horrendous but I love the UI and its size and the keyboard I could most likely get used too.
The Storm2, I like my Storm but its been nothing but a problem since Day 1 last November 2008 so I am a little iffy.

This brings me to the HTC. The keyboard looks great and the UI seems nice from all the reviews I've seen online.

My main concern is someone told me that this device doesnt have Push email and you have to set the phone to an interval to retrieve the email. Is this true? If the size is that significant I figure its nothing my purse/car cant handle! 🙂 Just lookin...

If you have an a MSFT Exchange server, it will push mail. I do know that the AT&T Tilt had BB connect, I'm not sure if VZW offers this service.

I have no idea about AOL, but Google can handle pushing through its own cloud, it will do this on Android devices and the iPhone (if you set it up). And I'm pretty sure about WM as well as Symbian. Check Google's mobile apps site for sure.

Exchange will only push via ActiveSync, so the phone has to support ActiveSync. I did not think a BB could do ActiveSync.

If you add a BES server to Exchange, then I believe it can push, but not just native Exchange.

So I spoke with HTC America and they informed me that microsoft exchange gets pushed directly to the device but anything else like gmail, aol, etc has to be set on a timer that ranges every 5 min to every 24 hrs.

Interesting to know if your coming from a blackberry device

There is a program called Seven that will push any email. I used to use it for my Yahoo addresses. It is free but there is a one time international text message sent from the program to register it, it's a very nifty application and I recommend it if you get this device.

Is the text message sent only once or every time the system registers after you make a call or come off of quiet time?

"Microsoft Exchange gets pushed directly to the device"?

That requires ActiveSync, or the addition of Blackberry Enterprise Server connecting to the Exchange server.

There may be an add-on for the BB to do ActiveSync, but I am not aware of it being native to a BB.

One can use BIS to get email, but I think that is a pull from OWA, not a true push.

There is a product called Emoze that I used to use. It may do what you want. It used to be somewhat buggy, but that was 2 years ago and they may have worked out the kinks by now.

Right now I just have my email retrieve directly from the host servers via pop3. I have it set to leave the email on the server and delete emails from the server if I delete them from the phone. That way I can keep up on my email on the road and when I get home and pull email into Outlook it is up to date without anything I deleted. For that to work I need to remember to close Outlook before I leave home!
