Im confused. Does it or doesit not have GPS built in? If so is it usable with 3rd party apps or just VZNav? Also, if its standalone, does that mean its an actual GPS radio like SIRF, etc that picks up sattellites, not cell towers?

All CDMA phones for the US have GPS built-in, of a type that actually picks up direct satellite signals. Most require help from the network (A-GPS) but they do receive signals directly from the satellite. Some can also operate without the network (standalone mode) although with reduced performance, and of course that's only relevant when you have no cellular signal.
