Why can't nokia make a t-mo/att 3g version?

That's a good question. But it would still have to be quad-band 3G, right? 850/1700/1900/2100. Does that make a difference?

I'm not sure there's enough US demand for such an expensive phone to justify that.

If T-Mobile wanted to carry the N97, I'm sure Nokia would make a version for them in a heartbeat, but that's T-Mobile's decision. Otherwise, the unlocked (full-price) market in the US is too small to justify the costs of creating such a model.

It's actually impressive that they're making a version to work with AT&T's 3G network, even though AT&T might not carry it. Nokia is the only major manufacturer doing that, and they may be losing money on it.

Well, its not JUST AT&T, I mean countries in North America and South America use the 850/1900 band for 3G, so there is a bigger market for them.
