How to set MP3's as Ringtones

BeanieMac

Jun 13, 2009, 1:27 PM
I have short clips in my music library on my phone and I am wondering how to set my music as a ringtone on my phone. Is this even possible.

BeanieMac . . . check out Myxer (http://www.myxer.com).

Besides having ringtones and wallpaper for download, you can upload any MP3 file you have, edit it and send it to your Verizon phone as a text message which allows you to save the sound file as a ringtone.

It works really well; you'll love it!

Many ringtones are free, some you pay for, but the MAKE YOUR OWN section and being able to upload MP3s to your verizon phone is FREE!

Have fun and enjoy!

This is what you do:

1. Pick a song you like, and have it already on your hard drive saved in mp3 format.

2. Cut a 30 second clip of the part that you want to use - I use Adobe Audition to do that, for example.

3. Make sure the file size is 330kb or smaller. I save my 30-sec clips at 90kbps bit rate.. that does it perfectly, and the quality is still good.

4. Save the file to your memory card, in the SOUNDS folder.

5. Insert card back in your phone, and send the file to YOURSELF as a picture message.

6. Once received, one of the options is to "save as Ringtone"

There you go!!

When you transfer the songs to your phone, save them under the "my sounds" folder on the card/phone

Then go into "my sounds" under media center on your phone and hit the left soft-key (should say "set as") Select Ringtone/contact idea to set it to play.

That should solve you issue.

I tried to follow what you suggest......
I plug in my phone, it wants to link using Windows Media Player, it will sync and send the song but won't give me the option of "my sounds". I didn't see anything in the sync options to pick the destination. It sends it to internal "my music" without a microSD or external "my music" with.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

ROcket science huh. I guess you have not read my previous posts. I have tried that it does not work. I know how to use USB Mass Storage mode. This is how I watch my movies on my cell phone. I have tried several different types of files the length of the song is less than 10 secs. SO NOw what Bill Nye?

Hey Guys
Why dont you try it like this?
Myxer.com does not charge you a monthly useage fee. I use pay-as-you go, believe me i would know if they were gonna ding you ten bucks a month.

Create an account with them, find the song you want on your pc as a ringtone, load it up on the website, use the clip you want (try to keep it under 30 seconds or it may send it as a QCP file and sound distorted) and send it as a text message to your phone. Then save it as a ringtone.
If the song you want came from a ripped cd, you can save it in your sounds as well, then move it to your removable storage/sd card. Then once you get a new phone, you can have your old ringtones. I know because i did it with my old Blitz phone, it broke and i now use the o...

when i initially signed up with myxer, i had to pay a one-time fee of $9.99 (i think). this fee gave me unlimited uploads. that was a couple years ago, and now all i have to do is sign-in and upload/download away. it works like a charm. and believe me, i would know if they were charging me monthly. READ their site for payment information, don't just take others' word for it.

Assuming you have a memory card installed, this is trivial. Put the phone in usb mode and copy the sound clip (mp3 < 30 secs only) to the My Sounds folder. Go to My Sounds, and text the sound to your own phone number. On receipt, hit the menu button and save it as a ringtone. I don't like those external sites because I never really know what they might do once they have your number.

Folks, assuming you have a micro-SD card, following is the easiest way I've found to set mp3's as personal ring tones -- and it doesn't involve texting or going to external sites:

Put small mp3 files (30 seconds or less) on the hard drive of your PC.

Insert your SD card into a reader and open the card's file structure on your desktop.

Copy the desired mp3 files from your hard drive into the SD card's folder called "my sounds". (Folder will appear after you've formatted card with EnvTouch)

Re-insert the SD card into your EnvTouch.

Go to My Sounds on the phone.

Click on desired sound file in list (don't "play" sound file).

A menu called "set as" will pop up where you can chose to set the chosen sound as your main ringtone...

Basically what I posted above, except that you don't need a reader; you can use the cable supplied with the phone to connect directly to the inserted card via usb (put phone in USB mode). Also, you may not be successful trying to save directly as a ringtone. You can associate it with a contact, but to save as ringtone, you really need to text it to yourself to get it saved on the core phone memory as a ringtone.

Thanks for the reply. Yours must function a little different than mine, or maybe it's just when you use the cable (I have never tried the cable). But, when I go to any file in "my sounds" on the phone (which is looking at the card) the first option is to set as Ringtone. The other two options are set as Contact ID or Alert Sound.

Thought it would be a helpful tip to save those who don't have a text package (hardly anyone anymore) from having to text it to themselves.

Thanks again.

Hmm, missing my reply body, which was,
"Yeah but it doesn't work. Tried it twice. It won't save as generally accessible ringtone. For that, you still have to text it to yourself else it won't save to the phone's internal memory."
