There is an option so that the phone does NOT automatically answer a call when you open it. To get to it, I hit the green send button, which brings up your list of recent calls. From there, hit the menu key (right below the send key). Then, go to "options" and then "general options." The first option is "Auto Answer Calls." Change it to "never," and you will have to hit the send key to answer. You can open the phone and have the option to answer or ignore, instead of the call being automatically answered.

As far as changing the text input type, you can find this option in the "options" menu, under "language." Where it says "input language" hit the track ball and select the second "English (United States) -the first selection is for English w/ suretype; it's kinda hard to read the entire line. You can choose multitap or suretype. Just remember that any time you change a setting, you have to hit the "menu" key and then hit "save," or the changes will not take effect.

Hope this helps!
