the upgrade does help with battery life, as will the upcoming webos update (coming around 11/15)
You have to install a homebrew app loader (preware) to get the patch to forward msgs

i don't want to buy the phone through sprint or amazon. way too expensive without a contract. know any place to buy or should i just go on ebay?

With the new update from Palm, you can now forward TXT message as well as having custom ringtones.
I think your best bet is to get the Pre w/ a contract.

I ordered my new Palm and should get it tomorrow! I just hope the battery is decent. I like the Hero, but don't think it stack up against the Pre. The people at Sprint are pushing the Hero like crazy!
