Thinking about switching to Sprint for this device, but not convinced

So I went into the Sprint store, and they had two Palm Pre's Left. I really like the idea of the phone and I've always been a palm fan ( I prefer Blackberry's but the Palm OS has always appealed to me as well), and there were things I really liked about the phone. Flicking applications, the screen, the OS, all seemed very cool. But the thing that makes me hesitant is the build of the phone. It felt cheap. The back which was shiny and sleek, felt like cheap plastic. The worse part was the keypad though. Felt like a child's plaything, really cheap and plasticky. So I would like some educated reasons why I should leave my Blackberry Curve 8900 to get the Pre. (and please don't mention the network, I am aware Sprint's Network is alot better than...

well just because the phone "feels" cheap u know that its not. plus who cares what it feels like when the software itself does much more then anyother phone?

if ur a business person or a person that requires alot from ur phone and like to be organized then the pre is for you. it organizes everything for you.

the software is so advanced that you will automatically adapt to the keyboard and the plastic phone per say.

think manahatton. not to attractive but those lofts are a beauty in the inside. those hotels are top of the line in the inside.

who wants a pretty outside just to go inside and see rats and dirty dishes and decaying wood pilars?

think smarter, not harder 😉 think Pre.

If you are concerned with build quality, keyboard feel, etc. remember this. WebOS which is what's really exciting is limited to the Pre to start with.

PreCentral is pegging the exclusive ending at the end of the year with either the Pre or other devices operating on the WebOS showing up with Sprint or other carriers starting in January of next year.

If you like the OS but not the hardware it's worth waiting.

Ive had my Pre since launch and although it feels plasticky thats because it IS. Most of the phone is made of plastic which results in a lighter phone. The phone is well built though so you shouldn't feel that its going to fall apart in a couple months or anything. And if you do break it just make sure you get insurance on your Pre so you will be covered in case it does (which the iPhone you CANNOT get insurance on)

As for the keypad that is all on you. Some people are born with thumbs that are bigger than the norm. So go play with the demo, write a couple sentences and see how you do. Once SDK comes out this summer I'm sure there will be a App for a on screen keyboard.

Phone is cheaply built, period. Palm spent their money on the operating system, Web OS. They didn't/don't have the funds to build superior software AND hardware on this current phone. Expect future phones to be real nice though if/when they get out of the red and start making some money. But yes cheaply built. I've already had the slider get stuck in the open position and am on my 2nd phone. Insurance is a must on this phone. If you drop your phone or do not take perfect care of your phones in general then do not get this phone. I can almost guarantee that even taking extremely good care of the phone the hardware won't last more than 6 months without needing to be fixed/replaced in some way, shape or form. If you're thinking about switch...

Waiting on my phone now to be replaced I would not recommend this phone based on how well it's built. I am one of the people whom's screen developed the crack from the home button which makes the phone useless. Palm knows about this problem...( google cracked screens on Palm Pre) My friend dropped his once and now has to have it replaced because he got a crack as well...however my cracked just developed.Once the screen is cracked the WHOLE side of your phone is useless. Everyone from time to time drops their phone not on purpose however this phone cannot handle mistakes. If you like being able to access your email & see web pages and have multiple apps open that you can access easy then this phone is for you however, so far I sent myself a p...
