Palm car charger

When I picked my Pre up yesterday at the Sprint store, I was told that if you wanted a car charger you had to use the one made by Palm. Now, working in the electronics field I know that company's say this all the time so that you buy their products. But, I was hoping that the igo products sold mostly at Radioshack, would work with the phone. When I looked it up on their website it did not have the Pre listed. I know they make a micro usb tip but is the voltage different? Anyone know if igo will work with this phone?

Believe it or not, i was calling BS on that very topic. I thought there is no way it wouldn't work. I bought the micro usb tip, plugged it in, and looky there... Nothin. I was shocked. I was sure that the guy was lyin thru his teeth. But, apperantly it's true. There is something about the car charger that is user specific to the palm pre. Palm Pre = Gotcha! So, I bought the charger. Accessories is where sprint is gonna make it's money... But, I really like the phone so ok.

Yeah I have a jabra charger that fits and phone says charging so it may depend on the make. But I don't wanna risk damaging so I dont know if it will full charge the phone. Especially this early on when the phone is so popular numbers are limited. I also am not to surprised about the Treo Pro charger working since it was made by Palm. But what is the cost of the Treo Pro vs. Pre charger.

My Moto charger worked, as does my generic Verizon-branded car charger. I am also using my Moto home charger instead of the one that came with the phone.

The trick is that a lot of chargers simply don't provide enough power, as most non-PDA phones don't require it. This is also the case with most mini-USB Motorola products, as they require the full 5v to charge, which is generally provided from USB ports/chargers.

Return that over-priced charger from Sprint and buy one that is specifically listed for Motorola products and you should be fine.
